Chag Pesach Sameach (Happy #Passover)! Sending many blessings as you gather at the Seder with your loved ones this weekend.
As #Passover arrives, Jewish Home resident Linda Frankes shares her words of wisdom, along with a powerful memory: By reading the Pesach Haggadah, each year, w...e teach our children how life can be so horrific when people lose their freedom. We then continue with a lesson explaining how, with unbelievable courage, they received a set of 10 rules to live by, which when some refused to follow, they had to suffer. For me, the personal lesson to learn relates to the concept of freedom that occurred on the first day of my eighth grade government class. After we settled into our seats, our teacher introduced himself. He told us, if we were there to learn that is great otherwise feel ‘free’ to leave now. No one left. Eventually, we learned he was a Korean War veteran. He told us the most important concept we were to learn in his class - there is ‘no freedom without responsibility.’ *Photo taken prior to COVID-19 pandemic.
Spring is upon us, bringing flowers in bloom, longer days of sunshine and fresh optimism and hope to the Los Angeles Jewish Home. This year, the end of winter c...oincides with a cautious hope around the gradual tapering off of the COVID-19 pandemic coming at a powerful time as we prepare to welcome #Passover, a holiday that celebrates themes of liberation. View what the Home's residents had to say about what Passover means to them this year: http://bit.ly/LAJHMeaningofPassover *Photos taken during last year's Passover celebration.
Happy #NationalPoetryDay! To celebrate this special day, we would like to share a poem filled with hope, crafted by one of our creative resident poets. The poem...’s message is especially meaningful, following the past year of required social distancing and other safety restrictions. I’m a Wild, Wild Stallion by Arlene Bercu The corral was opened, and out came I I’m a wild, wild stallion, oh me, oh my I’m free at last to gallop and be Not harnessed, not saddled I’m totally free As I take off for the meadows and hills The wind is billowing as I pass the mills I run and prance, and go with the sun My light is bright, I’m on the run I have no rider on my back I’m galloping now on my own fast track My heart is pumping, my energy high I’m in a euphoric state as I pass you by I have rhythm, I have a beat It comes out so easily, with my dancing feet No one to control me, to train me, you see I’m a wild, wild stallion, just let me be The beauty of nature, the flowers and trees The butterflies, birds, and bumble bees The critters all hurrying and scurrying around We were lost, but now we’re found No one beat us, no one to shout No one to tell us what it’s all about And then our beauty that is within It starts to surface, as we go deeply in We gallop on the plains with lightness and grace We’re free at last, in a wide open space And when my energy has completely run off I gallop back home, I’ve had enough I’m tired and quiet, I need to rest I’ve run and played, I did my best I’m a wild, wild stallion, you let me be I’ll always love you, you set me free!
We're so proud of Executives President Michelle Weisman who was featured on today's KTLA 5 Morning News at 5, as part of Nexstar’s Remarkable Women series!
Happy anniversary to Fountainview at Eisenberg Village residents Joy and Gerry Picus! The former Los Angeles City Councilmember and her husband celebrated 69 ye...ars of romantic bliss with a honey cake cart, created by the activities team, for their fellow residents. Each honey cake was individually wrapped, topped on the packaging with photos of the couple throughout the years, for residents to enjoy. They say the way to someone’s heart is through their stomachs and this sweet surprise certainly delighted taste buds and touched hearts! To many more anniversaries for Joy and Gerry!

For our March Executives Spotlight we would like to highlight Jeff Kobulnick, Executive VP/VP of Programming! 1. Please tell us about your business Jeff: I am a partner at the law firm Brutzkus Gubner and Chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group. We work with clients spanning a variety of industries, and my practice focuses on trademark and copyright law. I assist clients with the development, protection, and enforcement of trademark rights worldwide, and reg...ularly litigate claims for trademark and copyright infringement. Our main office is in Woodland Hills. We have additional offices in Nevada and Colorado. 2. Why are you involved with The Executives of The Jewish Home? Our Immediate Past President (and my friend) Gary Kendall introduced me to The Executives a few years ago. I was familiar with The Los Angeles Jewish Home but not with The Executives. This was a way for me to become more involved with a great organization that provides a wide range of services not only to its own residents but to the community at large. 3. What is something about you that most people do not know? I drove shuttle buses when I was in college, and still have a commercial driver’s license.
A year ago an unprecedented event in history took place, the beginning of the fight against the horrific COVID-19 pandemic. As we mark the one-year anniversary,... we recognize the frontline heroes of the Jewish Home. These amazing staff have been by our seniors side, around the clock, each and every day providing care and support during these challenging times. We also pay respect to the lives around the world lost due to this pandemic. May their memory forever be a blessing. See more

Fall came rolling through the Fountainview at Eisenberg Village hallways with the Harvest Cart! Carolyn Clark, lifestyle and enrichment director, and Lauri Kami...el, activities coordinator, dressed for the occasion in plaid shirts and jeans as they provided residents with autumn delights freshly baked pumpkin cookies and crisp apple juice! The cart was decorated with adorable scarecrows, mini hay barrels and fall foliage. For those missing the colors of autumn, they received a sample of the season right at their door! See more

Participants were greeted with balloons, music, dancing BCSC staff and a bag filled with necessities such as a cloth mask, toothbrush, hand sanitizer and much more. A fun time was had by all! Every year on #RoshHashanah, Jews around the globe recite these ancient words: Hayom harat olam Today is the day of the world's creation. It is a prayer for p...ositivity and hope that is particularly poignant during these trying times. As we grapple with a deadly pandemic that continues to wreak havoc on our daily lives, says Rabbi Karen Bender, Skirball director of spiritual life at the Jewish Home, this is precisely the message we need. Read our recap on this year's High Holy Day festivities at the Jewish Home. http://bit.ly/LAJHSweetNewYear
The Los Angeles Jewish Home’s Brandman Centers for Senior Care (BCSC) hosted a day for participants to safely receive their flu shots. BCSC provided transportat...ion for each participant from their home to the Center and back. Once vaccinated, participants were given a bag filled with activities to keep them engaged at home. Our CEO-President Dale Surowitz also stopped by to give our participants a warm welcome. Even under the masks, everyone could tell there were smiles all around! See more
