Separating then transplanting sporlings of Microsorum species ( have a rough name but not sure yet on ID)
I posted this Beginia pteridiformis, a tuberous species that does have a dormant period, due to it being named after ferns. In its native habitat, it grows off of the limestone rock formations, finding narrow cracks to exploit. As the new stems and foliage arises from a dormant tuber, it is very easy to believe it is really a fern until the flower buds start to form. After blooming for about 4 -5 months, it will suddenly go dormant. It is a great terrarium subject.

For those that missed the LAIFS Zoom meeting last night...you missed an interesting one. Al Palacio really knows his propagation and use of growing lights. Also thank you to the collaboration of Don DeLano and Rick Scobey Don showed us some of his plants and shared his vast knowledge of growing them. Hope to see more of you next month. on the 19th of Feb. Put it on your calendar.
Tonight we had our meeting on Zoom. We had 28 people in attendance. We also had people as far as Illinois and Texas, the Philippines and South Africa. Subject was Gardens of our Members and they sent in pictures. It was marvelous and we are going to continue this program for next month. Save the date: 16 Oct. 2020. 7:30 pm. Hope to see you
Just a reminder that we are holding our monthly meeting online this Friday at 7:30 pm. For August, we were going to do a recap of the past few shows. Nephrolepis exaltata ‘Emerald Vase’. I love the two tone color exchange in the newly emerged fronds - the black rod is a small fence to keep the dogs out. Growing below it is Syngonium podophyllum albo- variegatum which has been growing in the ground here in Claremont for about 31 years now - every once in a while I trim out the green reversion. It is sporadic and there is variegation on about 2 of the approximately 2x 6 planting
What an interesting meeting tonight via the Zoom program. Norm Nakanishi and Don Delano did a slide program on the early Fern Shows in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Some fantastic displays. We had several people from Australia join us this month and they are going to join us again next month. Let us know if you would like to be included for next month.

Follow up on earlier photos of the Asplenium bulbiferum plantlettes that I put down about late February. They are ready to shift to 4 pots. From the original 3 damaged fronds that were trimmed off of our parent plants I achieved 114 - 2 cells with no losses. So when we get back to our growing area at the Arboretum they will be ready to go.
My friend in Philippines posted this Cobra Fern. I love it. Anyone have a little one? :-D to sell.
Blechnum occidentale has just lost most of the reddish flush from the new fronds
