The world of volleyball lost one of its true giants with the passing of George Stepanof, player, coach, tournament director extraordinaire, father, husband and friend. He ran beach volleyball tournaments in San Diego since the 1950's including the world's largest (at the time) Estero Beach tournament. He quite literally wrote the rule book and created the beach rating system still used today for the California Beach Volleyball Association. Laguna Main nets are going up tomorrow! Official word from the city. Yahooooo!

Great update on the race to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer. Only two teams can represent the USA. Three teams in a tight race, with Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb in the lead and Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb battling Phil Dalhauser and Nick Lucena for second. There is only one tournament on the schedule that can deliver points in this race, an FIVB 4 Star in Doha, Qatar (yeah we know). Read this great story from Kim Smith at the AVP for details.

Congratulations to all four of these outstanding volleyball players! I’ve seen all four of them excel in our California Beach Volleyball Tournaments and we look forward to big things from them at the college level. Way to go Peri, Cambria, Piper and Hallie! We hope to see you on the sand for many years to come, especially in the Women’s Laguna Open.
