Happy Birthday Rogan! Posted @withregram @gsp.rogan So mom threw me an awesome Wild ONE birthday party. All my friends were there and even some dogs I didn’t know. She made everyone bandanas and tags from @gsp.milkandcookies everyone looked so good dressed as lumberjacks. We even got an extended play date with our BFF @rafael_and_remington and our cousin @explorewithranger mom took awesome photos of all my friends and me! So this happened. It’s much like any other day, sat on a Zoom meeting with the pups lying around under the table, but on this occasion we have an uninvited guest. While staring into the camera I notice some unexpected movement in the foreground. I pull focus and see it’s a tick striding across my computer screen! Yep, all leggy and bold. Not able to leave and burn or dip the thing in alcohol, I grab it in a piece of paper and have to hold on to it for the rest of the Zoom cal...l - bleurgh. You see our dogs are protected against ticks and fleas but we and our possessions are not! I’d love to say it's the first time that we’ve found a tick at home. It’s not. And in talking to others, it seems that around this time of year it’s not an uncommon experience when you have outdoor loving dogs. Ticks do not jump or fly, they simply wait on long grasses and plants and wait for dogs to brush by. We have a habit of wiping the girls down before they even get back in the car after a dog park run (especially if they’ve had a lot of time on the slope, running in and out of the brush) - but obviously one still got by us and it’s getting to the time of the year where we need to be super vigilant. "In May, tick nymphs emerge, joining the adults to make it the tickiest month of the year, says Thomas Mather, PhD, University of Rhode Island’s Center for Vector-Borne Disease. Did you know that there are 47 species of ticks in California? 8 of which bite humans but far more of them are very happy to latch onto our pups. You can talk to your vet about protection, research natural repellents, and please check over your pup just a little more that you normally would. #lagunabeachdogpark #friendsoflagunabeachdogpark

We were just reading a @lagunacanyonfoundation post about snakes starting to appear on the trails and how they are a critical part of our ecosystem when this photo popped up via messenger. This little guy apparently wanted to hang at the park tonight. It’s warming up - if your pups haven’t been rattlesnake trained please keep an extra eye on them while they are on the hill and around what’s left of the shrubbery at the bottom of the slope. Let’s stay safe and respectful of the wildlife we share our beautiful space with. #lagunabeachdogpark
