Sermon: Invitation to Stretch

Lafayette Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 14.04.2021

Grace Kim preaching

TEAM LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN CHURCH - We Have HOPE! Carol and Diane have a lot of reasons to be hopeful. Both are living with cancer and its aftermath and both, along with their husbands have received remarkable care and support for their cancer journeys from the Cancer Support Community (CSC). They have attended patient, caregiver and networking support groups, classes with important information from experts about cancer treatments, managing side-effects, and the medical tools ...of cancer from Traditional Chinese Medicine to cutting edge Western Medicine, plus workshops on healthy lifestyle, body & spirit practices, creative expression, and more. These services are offered completely free of charge. These two families have gained so much from what they have received and this is why they are inviting you to join them in the CSC Hope Walk. The CSC fundraising and awareness-building virtual Hope Walk will take place the week of May 9-15. If you would like to help us help thousands of cancer patients and their families, go to https://cancersupportcommunityhopewalk.rallybound.org//Laf During the week-long event, some people will walk, some will virtually cheer on the cancer patients and friends, some will simply make a donation in any amount, and some will be ambassadors for CSC by letting anyone whose life is touched by cancer know about CSC’s services. No matter how you choose to participate, your gifts are always welcomed! Every dollar we raise will advance the Cancer Support Community's great cause!

This Friday, Oct 2 at 6:30 pm, our pianist, Lino Rivera will be doing a lecture-performance for Seminar at St. Mary's College, where he teaches. It will be streaming live, and also will be recorded. Here is the link: https://stmarys-ca.zoom.us/j/96463038534 Lino will talk about the Age of Enlightenment and Romanticism and how those ideals manifested in the music of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin. Due to the time constraint (he has 60 minutes), he will not be playing comp...lete works, but certain movements of selected works. Also--if you missed Lino's interview and performance this morning on "Music and Human Rights" with UR Music and Art, and are interested in hearing it, you can watch the video here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=638596976851411&ref=watch_permalink

Lafayette Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 23.10.2020

Our pianist, Lino Rivera will be interviewed by the Vienna-based organization, UR Music and Art,, this Wednesday, Sept 30 at 10:00 am PT. Music & Human Rights Human rights, you say? That sounds horribly out of fashion; human wrongs is much more actual. Be that as it may, years ago, the Young Romantics (Liszt, Chopin, Wagner and co.) were extremely influenced by Goethe and particularly, his novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. As that fun-sounding title implies, W...erther was a human who wasn’t exactly righted. More often than not, we conceive of what is right based on our experiences with what is wrong, right? Pianist and professor Lino Rivera, born and raised in the Philippines, takes inspiration from the ideas of the Enlightenment and Romanticism. Lino will introduce himself, play musical excerpts, and discuss his work at the School of Liberal Arts at the Lasallian and catholic Saint Mary’s College of California. https://www.facebook.com/watch/
