Time Bank membersindividual and organizationalcontinue to engage virtually. A few options for this week: ANYTIME A recent Gardenerd.com Tip of the Week Podcas...t features Northeast L.A. Time Bank member David Newsom (pictured), founder of Wild Yards Project. ''We explore native habitats and landscapes. David is an amateur native plant enthusiast, but you’d never know it when you see his garden. He and his wife transformed a dead, flat landscape into a thriving garden teeming with wildlife. During our chat, David shares some of his favorite California natives. We talk about killing plants, survival of the fittest, and never giving up.'' A link to the podcast: https://gardenerd.com//podcast-wild-yards-with-david-news/ MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY Two meditative forms of bodywork are available weekly through the Time Bank, for members and for the general public! * On Mondays at 6:30PM and Saturdays at 9:00AM, Jenna Blaustein teaches Feldenkrais Method: Awareness through Movement classes. ''We use gentle movement sequences to increase your self-awareness and bring greater ease of movement.'' For the zoom link and password, email the instructor at [email protected]. * Monday through Friday at different times of the morning, afternoon, and evening, Lee Conger, LMFT & Integral Qigong and Tai Chi, mindbodylosangeles.com offers sessions of Qigong, ''an ancient Chinese energy healing practice. Translated as 'Life Force Cultivation,' Qigong involves gentle, meditative movement and breathwork.'' Find the schedule and Zoom links at MindBodyLosAngeles.com. Request the password by writing [email protected]. * Remind yourself of all of the above by following posts at the Time Bank Mind-Body Community Practices. No prior Feldenkrais or Qigong experience is necessary. Time dollars are happily accepted. WEDNESDAY Collective Impact is a free speaker series, addressing such topics as the climate crisis, resilience, health and wellness, diversity and inclusion, equity, economy, the environment, and much more. Los Angeles Ecovillage Institute - LAEVI, formerly CRSP and BuroHappold are co-sponsoring the 2020 events. ''We’ve assembled forward-thinking thought leaders for a discussion on our collective impact on Los Angeles and beyond. Join us, offer your insights, and be part of the conversation to move us forward collectively.'' For the first round on October 21, 5-7PM, ''we are providing three speakers: architect and LAEVI board member Ian N. McIlvaine, Building and Safety Commissioner Joselyn Geaga-Rosenthal, and long time friend and Burbank Recycling Center Coordinator Kreigh Hampel.'' FRIDAY ‘‘Since the last presidential election, Lauren Bon and the Metabolic Studio have held a weekly potluck, printmaking workshop, and community crafting space ... to process, collectively, the various crises of this time. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have restructured this practice to be a virtual Zoom gathering in which we educate ourselves on critical issues by reading and holding discussions while we craft. The current iteration is dedicated to educating ourselves about the ‘Fires of the West’ with a specific focus on Native land management and sovereignty, the history of fire suppression, and how we can decolonize our understanding of fire moving forward to create a safer and more resilient West. Please join us each Friday at 5:30 p.m. PST as we gather, learn and craft together. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/o/metabolic-studio-30121249062. If you'd like to receive an embroidery kit please send your name and address to [email protected]. SATURDAY 2:00-4:00PM. From Silver Lake Time Bank organizer John Wingler: Something free and fun to do this weekend, safely at home! For twenty-five years, fans of the beloved comic duo Laurel and Hardy have enjoyed a festival hosted by the Silver Lake Improvement Association, at the foot of the iconic stairs which are the actual setting in Silver Lake for the Oscar award winning short film, ‘‘The Music Box.’’ This year’s annual Music Box Steps Day festival will be presented virtually, via a video broadcast premiering on Saturday, October 24, from 2 - 4 pm, on SLIA’s website and its Facebook page. The presentation recounts the history of the stairs, the stars, and the film, ending with a newly re-mastered copy of the hilarious 1932 comedy, not to be missed! Link to website: http://www.silverlakeimprovementassociation.org/ 3:00-4:00PM Our Time Bank (Culver City, Palms, Mar Vista, Westwood, Beverly Hills, Ladera Heights, Inglewood, and the beach communities) is an organizational member of ASNTB. We enjoy the reciprocity. Their next Our Time Bank Virtual Potluck is Saturday, October 24, 3-4PM. ''Pour yourself a cup of afternoon tea and catch up with neighbors and friends via Zoom. We'll check in and trade stories of how we're supporting the sharing economy from a distance with fellow time bankers. Instructions for logging in are on our website:'' https://ourtimebank.com/node/1000/ ALL-DAY Participants in ASNTB's Writing Letters to Inmates (Social Justice Project), established May, 2014, were disappointed when the host church understandably shut their doors per the COVID-19 stay at home mandate. Concern for the inmates persisted. But the project coordinator at Hollywood Lutheran Church, ELCA devised a work-around, so that the correspondence may continue. He now prepares each timebanker's files and letters for pickup, including postage! How important these relationships have proven to be for the inmates. Please extend your kindly thoughts and goodwill to all involved. They will be writing again on Saturday. If you wish to get involved, too, contact John Wingler at [email protected]. See more

More than ever, we’re seeing the need for justice across multiple sectors, and it’s showing us how much our solutions rely on each other. In a shared ecosystem, no impact is isolated. They all intersect. That’s why we can’t act for climate by only focusing on the planet. We need to frontline justice for people too. On Thursday, September 24 1:00 PM PT/4:00 PM ET, join us LIVE for an honest discussion around racial equity, inclusion and the environmental movement with world-re...nowned thought leader, Dr. Mustafa Santiago Ali and environmental justice advocate, Miriam Torres. UPSTREAM Board member, Letise LaFeir will be hosting. Register to join us today! bit.ly/together-livestream #intersectionalenvironmentalism #breakfreefromplastic #indisposable (Thanks, Lisa Hart, for sharing in the Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance group.)

LAEV lost a feathered friend to the heat yesterday...Jolly Bee (aka Elvis), the black Crevecoeur with the constant bad hair day. Her spirit will live forever in the walls of the village run. Her body went into the pit compost where her love for Goji Berries, Corn, and Fig Beetle larvae will be absorbed into the soil to help feed the gardens of the village. May the circle be unbroken.
