May began our study of birds. We went to the library and did some research. After learning about the parts of the bird, we began exploring where birds lived; Nests and trees! After learning that birds use sticks, grasses, leaves and sometimes other things that humans leave behind we decided that it was time for us to go foraging for nest making supplies. Today we decided it was the perfect day for a long outing. The weather was perfect and our numbers were low so, to the Presidio we go! The Ladybugs had the chance to just run. Simple. Build with sticks, dig a hole, learn kindness for things smaller than us. We had a great adventure and...we walk all the way home. Happy Wednesday!

What a great way to start off the Spring season by learning about all the varied insect species that exist not only in our backyard but around the world! How exciting to be able to hold and observe such interesting creatures! Thank you to the Insect Discovery Lab for assisting us to instill a love for nature and a curiosity about our environment around us.

Egg hunts in the garden and silly games at school, no better way to celebrate spring!

The kids LOVED this project. Continuing our exploration of butterflies, insects and patterns, we used squeeze bottles (good finger muscle strengthening activity) filled with the primary colors (as well as black and white) and let the children create patterns. They could use up to 5 different colors. When the paint splattered paper was folded in half and opened it back up, it revealed a symmetrical image. This also sparked the conversation of color mixing! This week our Ladybugs turned into bunny rabbits hoping through Farmer Gayle's garden. This time, Farmer received a call to join her neighbors for a salad party, but when she went to her garden, her veggies were gone! When Farmer found the rabbits they hopped back to the salad bowl and shouted out what vegetables they added to the bowl.
