Thank you so much to those of you who came to our Grand Opening yesterday! I hope you had a great time mingling and enjoying all the great food. Norma and I love our new place and we hope that you do too! Here are some pictures of my massage room, Norma's room and the rest of the Spa. If you didn't come by yesterday, there are still a few gift bags left with a $10 coupon inside for either a massage with me or a facial with Norma. Just call or text me to book an appointment for this week before they are all gone. Hope to see you soon!

Hi, folks! I was just a guest on this podcast, which the host broadcasted live to FB just now - will be edited and released as podcast in coming weeks, but just... for anyone interested this can be seen now. I didn't expect to go into VEGANISM at ALL because of the format and audience, but was really pleased this actually came up. Otherwise, hoping this was a good and encouraging teaser for anyone in her audience who's clueless about the facts and may go get more and make a real change that we all want to see. See more

Got KETO?... Yes, I know... I've been saying this for decades, but some of you just didn't want to listen. You like your meat, eggs and dairy. But... they do N...OT do your body good. The negative long-term consequences of ketogenic diets may far outweigh any potential short-term benefits, according to a comprehensive new review published in Frontiers in Nutrition. Keto diets have skyrocketed in popularity over the last decade due to their ability to promote quick weight loss. Typically very low in carbohydrates, modest in protein, and high in fats, the aim of keto diets is to push the body into ketosisthe state in which the body uses fat for fuel. Foods like red meat, fish, nuts, cream, eggs, cheese, oil, and non-starchy vegetables are given the green light while starchy vegetables, fruit, whole grains, beans, and lentils are avoided as much as possible. For this latest meta-analysis, a group of physicians, researchers, and registered dietitians analyzed more than 120 peer-reviewed studies on keto diets to identify long-term effects. They found that people who follow such diets have a significantly increased risk of developing heart disease, LDL cholesterol buildup, kidney failure, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and cancer. They also discovered that keto diets are particularly dangerous for people who are currently pregnant or may become pregnant. Low-carbohydrate diets are linked to birth defects, particularly neural tube defects, and gestational diabetes even if the pregnant person is taking folic acid supplements. Additionally, for those living with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the high amounts of protein consumed on the keto diet can place excess stress on the kidneys and worsen the long-term internal damage of CKD. The foods that are emphasized on a keto diet are the very products that cause colon cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease, says study co-author Neal Barnard, MD, FACC, president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and an adjunct professor of medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine. New research also shows that these same foods raise the risk for severe COVID-19. See more

Comment of the Day: "This is one of my favorite recipes! I've made it a few times and the stew's gravy has always been super tasty (but I really like Guinness).... We never have any leftovers when I make this because we eat it all straight away. I couldn't find Guinness at the store last time so I made it with a different dark beer and it was still good but wasn't the same. I have a secret stash of Guinness now so I'm ready for the next time I want to make this " ~ Victoria https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/vegan-irish-stew/

Daikon bacon is a thing. Not my favorite bacon, but it is very good. My favorite is rice paper bacon. Coconut bacon is good also. They all use the same mixture ...to dip or bake in. That recipe is below. Today the daikon bacon was used to make a Eat Just egg, Violife cheese, daikon bacon English muffin sandwich with BBQ sauce. Vegan bacon mixture recipe: 2 tblsp oil (or leave out. I do not use oil) 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari or aminos (if you don't use oil, double this amount.) 3 tblsp nutritional yeast tsp liquid smoke 1 tblsp maple syrup tsp black pepper tsp smoked paprika tsp cayenne pepper A bit of water to thin out the mixture, if needed. 375 preheated oven Bake on parchment paper on oven rack for 7 to 11 minutes (adjust as needed and keep a close eye so they don't burn.) For rice paper bacon cut strips so they drop into a dish of water to soften just a bit, then dip in mixture, bake on parchment. (Use 2 rice paper pieces together for thicker bacon.) For Daikon, sprinkle with salt to draw out moisture, dry for several hours on a towel, dip in mixture, bake on Parchment. For coconut bacon, soak pieces in mixture, spread out on parchment, bake.
