The remarkable change is that at a time when gang murders are reaching levels that we haven’t seen in 10, 20 years, Gascón has decided to cut the gang unit to fulfill a political promise that he’s given to fringe groups. https://www.pasadenanow.com//da-announces-reorganization-/

George Gascón’s policies have come home to roost in the Santa Clarita Valley. We predicted that the new Los Angeles County district attorney and his policies aimed at justice reform would diminish public safety and embolden criminals throughout the county, and even here in the SCV, one of the safest communities in the nation. That prediction is already coming true, in many small ways and now, one big one. https://signalscv.com//our-view-gascon-chickens-home-to-r/

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón says that science and data justify his criminal justice policies, including his decision to eliminate sentencing enhancements and abandon the three strikes law. According to Gascón, scientific evidence unequivocally confirms that longer sentences harm public safety by boosting repeat offenses. The judge presiding in the case between the Association of Deputy District Attorneys and the Los Angeles County District Attorney has ruled in the ADDA's favor. The court ruled as we expected in holding that the District Attorney cannot order his prosecutors to ignore laws that protect the public from repeat offenders. Read our complete release.

Eric Siddall, vice president of the Los Angeles Association of Deputy District Attorneys, the union representing county prosecutors, said the latest transfers and attrition had left 29 prosecutors working in the gang unit, which previously had nearly 50 people covering cases. Most of the 700 open cases are murders and require very specialized training to manage, said Siddall, who spent five years as a prosecutor in the gang division. ``You cannot handle the amount of gang mur...ders and attempted murders that are in this county with 29 prosecutors. You just cannot,'' he said, arguing that the D.A.'s office would be forced to enlist other prosecutors outside the unit and without sufficient training or experience to handle the caseload. Siddall also challenged the idea that working closely with law enforcement and the community is anything truly new. He said that prosecutors operating under federal grants from the Community Law Enforcement and Recovery (CLEAR) anti-gang program have long done so, though they were moved out of traditional station posts by previous administrations. ``The remarkable change is that at a time when gang murders are reaching levels that we haven't seen in 10, 20 years, (Gascon) has decided to cut the gang unit to fulfill a political promise that he's given to fringe groups,'' Siddall said. ``It is typical of what this administration does. It does not make decisions based upon public safety. It does not make decisions about what is good for the case,'' the union spokesman said. ``It makes decisions based upon what it feels will poll well with the public.'' https://patriotla.iheart.com//2021-04-09-gascon-pushes-to/

Gascón’s Proposed Policies Guided By Inexperience There are few positions where experience matters as much as the head of the largest prosecutorial office in the country. George Gascón, candidate for Los Angeles County district attorney, seeks to lead that office without ever having prosecuted a case himself. And there is perhaps no better illustration of the consequences of this lack of experience as his policy proposal in domestic violence cases. Specifically, Gascón proposes that domestic violence victims, even if served with a subpoena, will no longer have to come to court to testify. This seemingly humane proposal is fraught with unintended consequences, including the dismissal of many disturbing domestic violence cases. Please read the article by San Francisco Mayor London Breed San Francisco’s former district attorney, George Gascon, who left town before his term was finished so he could run for D.A. in Los Angeles, has a long history of going whichever way the winds blow, saying whatever suits his political purposes, and only looking out for himself. Nevertheless, I was shocked to read how Gascon is now trying to explain why I, along with San Francisco’s well-respected city attorney, Denni...s Hererra, oppose his candidacy. Gascon claims he rattled cages in San Francisco and that’s why our city’s top leaders oppose him.
