Elgin was a member of the LA Lakers when they played in the LA Memorial Sports Arena from 1961-1966 upon their move from Minneapolis. He is recognized with Jerry West in our Memorial Court of Honor.

Big Band. Big Anniversary. Cheers Rammstein on the 25th anniversary of the release of their debut album Herzeleid. Who's coming to the Coliseum, ready to rock Rammstein-style, in September 2021?
Today we honor the memory of Rafer Johnson by lighting our cauldron, as he lit it so many years ago to open the 1984 Olympic Games at the Coliseum. Johnson was a remarkable athlete while at UCLA, gold medalist in the 1960 Rome games in the decathlon, and called the Greatest Athlete in the World. He made history as the first black man to carry the flag for the US at the XVII Olympiad Opening Ceremonies in 1960 and again when he lit the torch to open the XXIII Olympiad. A bronze plaque of Rafer Johnson is displayed in the Coliseum’s Memorial Court of Honor.

Legendary. Van Halen played the Coliseum on their first headlining tour in 1979 and came prepared to prank Aerosmith with a WWII-era tank. The prank may have been cancelled, but the concert was unforgettable. Thank you Eddie Van Halenan epic musician.
Live from the archive. Concert history was made in 1985 when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band rocked a sold-out crowd of 83K at the Coliseum. Get that live show feel with this collection of Boss songs in our Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1oQaIKVAru75jpb9Wx55wF

OTD 60 years ago, JFK accepted the presidential nomination. Today, the LA Coliseum will light our torch and raise our flags to commemorate this historic day. In his speech, JFK called his fellow Americans to embark on the New Frontier and his words are just as poignant today as they were in 1960. You can view his entire speech here: https://bit.ly/30f80SO
