CARLSBAD Garrett Brown was grateful to be among the 0.1 percent of the state high school track and field athletes who found a way to compete in more than a couple of early season meets in 2020. Congrats to Garrett Brown who cleared 16’7 yesterday at the Vaulter Club Big Red Barn Meet. 16’7 is the highest a SDCIF junior vaulter has ever jumped and 2nd only to the county record of 16’ 8. Impressive!!

Unfortunately we all saw this coming but now it is official as of today. The coaching staff wants to thank all of our athletes for their time and energy this spring. We miss all of you very much and hope you are all safe and healthy. Thank you especially to all of our seniors. We know this is heartbreaking to everyone but more so to all of you. Use your strength, courage and fortitude to move onward and upward. This is not the end but a beginning to a new chapter.

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. Today the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Office and the 10 Section Commissioners held their annual scheduled spring meeting. The agenda included a discussion concerning the impact of COVID-19 on the 2020 CIF spring sports season. While the time may come when we have to cancel post-season events, today is not that day. In anticipation of further guidance and directives issued by federal, state and local government agencies regarding COVI...D-19, the CIF has not determined the future of spring sports events at this time and intends to reconvene with the 10 Section Commissioners on April 3 to revisit this issue. Pending that time, Sections will continue to confer with their local leadership and the State CIF will continue to monitor any directives and recommendations issued from the above entities. The CIF will continue to work with our schools and school districts with the health and well-being of student-athletes and school communities as our priority. Additionally, the originally scheduled April 3, 2020, CIF Federated Council Meeting has been postponed and will be rescheduled no earlier than May 8, 2020, and will be held via teleconference. School is officially closed beginning Monday, March 16. There is no official return date as of this time. ALL sports are cancelled as of 10:30 am this morning. We will be meeting as a team at 3 pm today in the bleachers. If it is raining we will meet in the gym. We can not practice today. There will be no practices going forward until we are cleared by the State and district.

Track practice cancelled for today, Thursday March 12! We plan to practice tomorrow.

This weekend’s Bronco Invite has been cancelled. We are taking the schedule day by day and will keep you up to date!

Congrats to Garrett Brown for breaking his brother’s school record by going 16’6 at the Mt. Carmel field and distance meet. A great day for LCC and the Brown family.
