From my experience, most if not everyone experiences some symptoms of imposter syndrome. Everyone has insecurities, everyone at times feel like they don’t belong, and everyone at times has anxiety. This helped me realize that there are people who push through these feelings everyday to succeed and there are people who allow their fears to hinder them. I choose to be apart of the successful group! Join me in being BOLD and DISCIPLINED this year.

Self esteem is built through experiences over time. How you talk to yourself and how others speak to you develop the narrative of who you believe you are. Other experiences also contribute to how you view yourself. What are the people and experiences in life now that make you feel valued?????

Here a create a short mind map for demonstration. Mind maps allow you to break down one big idea into several details, which really help the planning process.

Many black women in the corporate world are continuing to suffer from isolation., discrimination and company ignorance. With the current protests and uprisings, black employees are being called in to help soothe companies racial relationships and feelings of mistrust may arise. Black employees may ask...Why now? Black women feel isolated and are afraid to be assertive in fear of being seen as the stereotype of an angry Black woman but also feel diminished as their ideas and... work can be used for the companies benefit without appropriate credit being given to them. BLACK WOMEN.....What can you do to keep your mental health in tact during this experience. 1. Set boundaries with coworkers and management 2. Find joy outside of work 3. What brings you Joy. For everyone the answer is different. In therapy, many of the strategies that we use to cope with stress, depression or anxiety tap into the elements of our life that bring us joy. At times, we may get so overwhelmed by our emotions that we forget. Homework of the day: write a list of things or activities that bring you joy and keep this list in a place that you can see it multiple times a day as a reminder. #therapist #selflove #joy #oakland #journey #progress

Waiting on a zoom call for a huge opportunity and I realized that I have characteristics of imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is when you feel as though you don’t belong somewhere or deserve something even though all your experience, education or merits prove that you do. I have imposter syndrome in almost all aspects of my life. I used to allow it to not let me take opportunities because I knew that I would be found to be fraud or not good enough. Now I fight through my insecurities, give all of me and move forward. My ability to live despite fear has afforded me some amazing opportunities over the past few years and I plan to keep pushing! #fear #selflove #impostersyndrome #dream

I saw this yesterday and it spoke to me. Don’t wait until you are in a crisis to gain the tools necessary to take care of yourself or your mental health. Make self care a daily practice to add into your piggy bank of self love. We get drained by the world every day, make sure you are refilling before your gas runs out!!!! #therapy #oakland #selfcare #piggybank #love #mentalhealth

Emotions are like young children, the less you pay attention to them the stronger they come the next time. It only takes so long before they are having a tantrum in the middle of a store. Give yourself permission to feel your emotions, so that you can control them not the opposite. #therapist #oakland #selflove #selfcare #therapy #emotions #grief #anxiety #depression

My father always says Chance favors a prepared mind. It’s Monday morning and you are probably already on the run but since you are seeing this you have time for social media. If you have time for social media, you have a few moments to make a plan for the week or even for the day. Planning allows you to place all of the jumbled ideas for the day/week into paper which soothes racing thoughts and eases anxiety. Planning leaves less room for distractions and makes you more productive. This also eases anxiety. So if you are an anxious person, work on creating a step by step plan. Head to my website and check out my blog on mind mapping!!! #plan #monday #therapist #oakland #mindmap #selfcare #selflove

It seems like such common sense to breathe but to many it is a radically new idea. We take advantage of some of the interventions that are natural for our bodies. Intentional deep breathing has so many benefits to our overall health and specifically with reducing anxiety. It increases oxygen in the brain which slows down the parasympathetic nervous system which allows you to calm down. #breathe #mindfulness #selfcare #selflove #therapist #oakland #deepbreathing #anxiety #intervention

I need a drink! That is a typical American phrase for I had a bad day and it is so common that children hear this and equate alcohol or food with emotional pleasure. Though, enjoying food every once in awhile to satisfy an emotional need can be healthy, in abundance it can become an addiction. Furthermore, many of the foods and drinks that we reach for to soothe our immediate emotional issue may actually backfire on us. Alcohol and many food high in fat and sugar are actually depressants. This means that they will cause our sugar to spike and then fall and our energy will decrease which increases symptoms of depression and anxiety. So next time you have a bad day... think of other coping strategies you can reach for. #depressant #food #alcohol #therapy #coping #emotionaleating #oakland #therapist
