The Tapeka Trait (belted gene) comes from the mother country. Dr. Karen Nicoll of the New Zealand Kunekune Association states that there have been historically... some Kunekunes that are belted going back many generations. This is indicative of an outlier within the Tapeka bloodline which gives way to the evidence of a belt in many pigs as well as great explosions of color.
