Meet Thanvee. She enrolled in the Kumon Math Program at 4 years old and has continued for the past 9 years. She’s currently an 8th grader who studies ahead of her grade level thanks to the skills Kumon has taught her. While there are moments when the worksheets present challenges, she has built the confidence to continue learning how to solve new problems. Thanvee’s words of advice to new Kumon Students: Even though it gets hard and you may not feel motivated to do it someti...mes, stick with it because it will help you in the long run." Due to her perseverance and hard work, Thanvee was one of under 200 students selected from Canada, USA, and Mexico to attend the 2020 Kumon Student Conference. Thanvee also credits Kumon for teaching her the importance of consistency. Practicing is an important part of success, which has helped her in activities such as dance, volleyball, horse riding, and Tae-Kwon-Do.

Meet Mason, N., the Senior Division 1st Place Bookmark Contest Winner in Round 1. While completing his Kumon Reading studies virtually, Mason remains a voracious reader. He was excited for the opportunity to participate in the Western Region’s Book Club’s Contest last fall. In photos displayed, Mason is featured celebrating his win with his family and his Kumon Instructor Lois Lau of the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Broomfield (Colorado). In addition to having his book review and visual drawing of Rafe Martin’s The Rough Face Girl published, he won other special prizes including a gift on his behalf from Kumon to his regular school. Mason and his family are seen presenting this gift and other promotional items to his Principal at Stargate Charter School, Mr. Wildenstein, and teacher, Mrs. Ross. Way to go Mason!

You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book ~ Dr. Seuss. Our Western Region Book Club hosted a fun-filled bookmark contest where Kumon Reading Students from branches in the West read their favorite book from our Recommended Reading List, wrote a review, and created a visual image of the book’s story. Students were then judged on their creative writing in the review and imagery on the bookmark. All winners and finalists had their bookmarks published. We are very excited to announce our First Round Contest Winners and Finalists.
