In honor of Yom HaAtzmaut, we are posting this Shiur from Rabbi Yonatan Halevy given at the Shiviti Bet Midrash in Los Angeles! Though the formal celebrations... of Yom HaAtzmaut take place in Israel today, per the ruling of Morenu HaRav Emet L'Yaakov Peretz, the practice of Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim is to celebrate Yom HaAtzmaut on the fifth day of Iyar, regardless of which day of the week it falls out on. This year, the fifth of Iyar will be on Shabbat. Dancing in the Shadows: A Nuanced Response to the Charedi War on Zionism https://youtu.be/0nW_V9XZ9lo See more

The Schwartz family is a special and beloved family in the San Diego Jewish community, and are founding members of Shiviti’s Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim community.... My uncle, Dan Schwartz, with his wife, my aunt Denise, raised four boys together and during that time made the decision to provide the San Diego Jewish community with the only all-Judaica full service store. They have helped countless Jews with their Judaica needs over the years and in doing so, have built many friendships along the way. They are beloved for their warmth and upbeat disposition. Even during hard times they made it their mission to make certain their store stays open and available to meet the needs for the Jews of San Diego. When COVID shook our world, it was painful for Dan and Denise to have to close their store to the community. Dan worked hard to attempt to make ends meet and to continue providing for the family. It was a financially straining and difficult year for them. Then suddenly, Dan became sick with COVID and things quickly went from financially "hard" to financially and emotionally crushing. Dan is now in the ICU fighting for his life. Meanwhile, the family is struggling to support themselves and bills are pilling up with no income coming in. Please help the Schwartz family during this painful time! Please give what you can and share this link with others. I would consider this a personal favor, and ask HaKadosh Baruch Hu to repay you two-fold. Thank you so much for your support! https://www.charidy.com/SCHWARTZFUND

With immense gratitude to HaKadosh Baruch Hu, the Shiviti Bet Midrash - both locally at Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim, and globally - has seen more growth and succe...ss than in any previous year! From offering all of our in-person classes via Zoom, to rolling out our main classes on major podcast platforms, to expanding our Bet Midrash across the ocean and founding our United Kingdom division - we have been busy! Unlike other organizations which struggled to bridge the technological gap and secure the proper platforms to connect with their communities during COVID, we were ready to go and hit the ground running. At the same time, until today, almost every piece of equipment we use to film, record, and broadcast our classes is borrowed or loaned to us! We have come a long way from our humble beginnings. With Baruch launching our YouTube channel as a one-man team, and then Yitzchak partnering with him to enhance audio and video quality, and Oren subsequently partnering with them to transform videos into high quality sound fit for professional podcasts, we have developed an advanced system of sharing high-quality content with the entire world - free of charge! Have you ever joined one of our Zoom meetings? Have you watched any of our YouTube videos? Have you enjoyed listening to one of our podcasts? Are you one of many - near or far - active participants in our Shiviti Bet Midrash who relies on our content to continue learning? We are offering you the opportunity to help us continue putting out this content - for you! Instead of regularly borrowing equipment and constantly asking for favors, we have begun this campaign to set up the infrastructure of our independent Shiviti Studio. Equipped with state-of-the-art camera and recording equipment, dedicated laptops, high-speed internet, wireless microphones, professional lighting, background props and other enhancements to our equipment, we will be able to more efficiently and reliably provide you the content you already enjoy! Please, help us - help YOU! Click this link to contribute: https://www.kshsd.org/shivitistudiocampaign

Shalom! By now, many of you have reached out to ask about the events which occurred on Chag. Baruch Hashem, I am well, and things will be ok! I have spent hour...s today with police captains, sergeants, and detectives, as well as interviewed extensively by media agencies. As soon as I can - tonight - I will send you an email with a thorough update, and an invitation to join a meeting set for tomorrow evening at 8:30pm. Please hold off spreading rumors until I am able to share with you everything myself. I am here for each and every one of you and will be in touch with you as soon as I possibly can! Thank you, always, for your love and support! Yonatan Halevy Rabbi and Spiritual Leader, Shiviti/Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim

Open to the greater Shiviti family! It is a long-standing practice at Kehillat Shaar HaShamayim to show respect to those who observe Yizkor on the days the Ashkenazi communities worldwide do by reciting a "Hashkavah Kelalit", a communal memorial prayer. This year, especially for those unable to join us in person, names can be submitted for the Rabbi to recite during Yizkor at the Kehillah. ... Kindly submit names before 1:00pm on Friday (10/9). Please use the form at the link below - may their memory be for a blessing. https://www.kshsd.org/yizkor
