Tips for driving in the rain 1. Before driving, check the condition of your vehicle. Check: Tread on tires Headlights... Tail lights Windshield wipers Defroster (AC unit is used to remove humidity from the air) 2. Slow down. 3. Drive with your headlights on. 4. Maintain a safe distance between cars. Keep a minimum of 3 seconds of space between the vehicle ahead of you and your car, 6 seconds when driving in the rain and 9 in snow. 5. Beware of hydroplaning, watch for standing water. If your tires are worn out you are more likely to hydroplane, even if you are driving a four-wheel drive car, truck or SUV. If your car starts to hydroplane, let off the accelerator, steer slowly until you regain control. If your car starts to spin, turn your wheel in the SAME direction that our car is spinning. 6. Don’t let your windows become foggy. Turn on the defroster to avoid condensation on your windshield. Pull over if necessary until your windows become clear. Your vehicle’s AC must work for the defroster to work properly. 7. Always ignore your cell phone while driving, especially if it is raining.
