In the first two photos I’m holding an image entitled The Haymakers. This group of black women posed for their portraits in Sacramento in 1910. At that time, the first black middle-class arose. With greater affluence the black community of Sacramento gained greater political power and social clout. This group of young upwardly mobile black Californians were dubbed the Haymakers. Many clients have asked: What are hand-embellished giclée prints? The term giclée refers to fine art digital prints made on archival canvas or paper vis a vis an inkjet printer. My canon8400 IPF printer can print at 600dpi which means 600 individual micro-ink-drops containing differing levels of ink for each drop are deposited onto each square inch of the image. This ink-jet printing technology can create a print virtually indistinguishable from the original. Of course th...ere are many other factors that go into the quest of replicating originals. As a fine-art print -maker I seek to capture the spirit and clarity of the original image as much as possible. I do this by using the finest inks, the best technology, archival Belgian linen canvas and finally hand-painting the last touches, creating an original piece in its own right living as a companion with its originator. That is my cause: to make the prints come alive to breathe life into them. Here’s a little behind the scenes video of my Gicleé art printer in action! I also love the back-story of Estrellita Jones aka Stella Hurtig. It feels quite fitting for today as it is the festival of Purim! I appreciate the story of Ester in so many ways. I enjoy ruminating on what it means to be duplicitous and to what ends does that double nature become exulted? Certainly Haddasah saving her people as the assumed identity of Ester is an exultation of a double nature.
