Happy Earth Day! The early days of the pandemic we all witnessed the world "healing" with lower carbon monoxide levels, sealife returning to cities and air quality improving. Climate change and the continued destruction of our planet can have profound health effects for communities. The CDC states that climate change, as well as natural and human-made health stressors, influences health and diseases across the country. The health effects of such disruptions include respirat...ory and cardiovascular disease, injuries, premature deaths related to extreme weather events, mental health and more. Today, EarthDay.Org will be hosting a virtual global summit full of workshops, panel discussions and performances. Summit starts at 12pm EST! Click the link below to check out the virtual event!

With summer on the horizon, the question remains: Is it safe to travel yet? The answer: it depends. The CDC has stated it fully vaccinated people can travel "at low risk to themselves," and do not need to quarantine or get a negative test before or after any domestic flights. The CDC also does NOT recommend non-essential travel for unvaccinated people. You must also consider individuals with any pre-existing health conditions who may or may not be vaccinated as they will be more at risk. So you've gotten your first dose of the COVID vaccine, what next? If your COVID vaccine requires two doses, there isn't much you can do except continue practicing safety protocols and wait for your second dose. The CDC stated the first dose is 80 percent effective at preventing infection, this was measured two weeks after the first dose but before the second. Pfizer also released research last week showing protection lasted at least 6 months for people who received both do...ses of the vaccine. The Pfizer research also shows protection against variants, including the South Africa variant, for those who received both doses. Make sure to check out the rest of the information provided in the article about the COVID-19 vaccine!

Happy World Health Day! For 2021, The World Health Organization selected "Building a fairer, healthier world for everyone" as the theme given the circumstances brought forth by the pandemic. There's no question this pandemic shook every industry to its core around the world, but it brought to light the inequalities in healthcare from lack of PPE for staff to lack of access to healthcare due to layoffs. However, it presents an opportunity to speak on such inequalities. "The en...joyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition." - WHO We mourn those we lost but we keep pushing with the hope that change is coming, so we can all live in a healthier world. "Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of condition characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication." This year's theme for World Autism Day is "Light It Up With Kindness" because kindness is free and the potential is unlimited. Change starts with us, so let's make the world a kinder, more inclusive place for all. According to CDC, autism affects 1 in 54 children in the United States and... there isn't just one type of autism but many subtypes. Research has shown that a combination of genetics and the environment can influence the type of autism a child can develop.
