Butte County has been elevated to TIER 2 in the state's COVID blueprint for re-opening. This less restrictive tier means Butte County restaurants can open for indoor dining with modifications and safety precautions. Indoor dining can open at 25 percent capacity or 100 diners... whichever is fewer. Bars that don't serve food must remain closed. Gyms and fitness centers can now open indoors but ONLY at 10 percent capacity. Indoor Movie theaters can open but can only admit 25 percent capacity. Churches can open indoors with 25 percent capacity. Retail stores and malls can open and can now operate at 50 percent capacity If Butte County stays in TIER 2 for the next two weeks (October 13th) local schools will be able to return to in-person instruction. By far the worst three day stretch for positive Coronavirus cases in Butte County over the weekend. 178 cases including 120 reported cases on Saturday. There are currently 361 people isolated with ACTIVE cases of the virus and 16 people hospitalized. Its the worst 7-day total since the pandemic began. 133 of the new cases are college-aged people between the ages of 18-and-24.... The explosion in numbers coincides with Chico State's decision to halt in-person instruction as cases spiraled after just a few days of classes. There were many instances of college-aged students not adhereing to social distancing guidelines prompting warnings from University President Gayle Hutchinson. Last night she said the rest of the fall semester would be conducted on-line as the case loads were expected to jump. The 120 cases on Saturday is the worst single day for Butte County since the pandemic began and the exploding numbers puts elementary school waivers and getting off the state's Watch List in serious doubt See more
Chico State is shutting down in-person instruction after nearly 30 Coronavirus cases in less than a week of classes. University President Gayle Hutchinson warne...d the campus community last week that if the trend-lines didn't get better measures would need to be taken. So ends the great experiment to hold in-person instruction for certain classes for the Fall 2020 semester. Hutchinson says the rest of the Fall semester will now be held in a virtual fashion. She says the 700 students living the residence halls must be out of the dorms by next weekend. She says the university will assist students find housing.Hutchinson says almost all of the on-campus dorms have been impacted by the Coronavirus. Hutchinson warned students and the community this could happen as reported cases climbed. Last week an apartment complex near Chico State had 15 positive cases and one of the cases is believed to have taken to their place of employment where a second outbreak was reported. Over the past two weeks nearly 200 18-to-24 year olds have tested positive for COIVD-19 in Butte County
