A Prayer for the Thanksgiving Feast For the laughter of the children, For my own life breath, For the abundance of food on this table,... For the ones who prepared this sumptuous feast, For the roof over our heads, The clothes on our backs, For our health, And our wealth of blessings, For this opportunity to celebrate with family and friends, For the freedom to pray these words Without fear, In any language, In any faith, In this great country, Whose landscape is as vast and beautiful as her inhabitants. Thank You, God, for giving us all these. Amen. See more

The Obligatory Deli Joke Shoshana had not seen her Milwaukee relatives in years, so she was terribly excited when her Aunt Minnie and Uncle Abe came to visit her in New York to spend the Sukkot holiday. To celebrate the reunion, she took them to an old-fashioned Jewish deli on the lower east side. I’ll have the kreplach, Shoshana told the waiter.... The kreplach is from last night, explained the waiter. Better you should order something fresh-madelike stuffed peppers. All right, let it be stuffed peppers. The waiter turned to Aunt Minnie. And you? Bring please the pot roast. Look, lady, the pot roast is strictly for goyim. You want somethin’ special, try the flanken. All right then, so bring the flanken. Uncle Abe had been studying the menu carefully. Then he said, Waiter, I can't make up my mind. What do you suggest? Suggest! cried the waiter. On a busy night like this who has time for suggestions?

Sukkot - Dr. Seuss Style You can build it very small You can build it very tall You can build it very large ... You can build it on a barge You can build it on a ship Or on a roof but please don't slip You can build it in an alley You shouldn't build it in a valley You can build it on a wagon You can build it on a dragon You can make the s'chach of wood Would you, could you, yes you should Make the s'chach from leaves of tree You shouldn't bend it at the knee Build your Sukkah tall or short No Sukkah is built in the Temple Court You can build it somewhat soon You cannot build it in the month of June If your Sukkah is well made You'll have the right amount of shade You can build it very wide You cannot build it on its side Build if your name is Jim Or Bob or Sam or even Tim Build it if your name is Sue Do you build it, yes you do! From the Sukkah you can roam But you should treat it as your home You can invite some special guests Don't stay in it if there are pests You can sleep upon some rugs Don't you build it where there's bugs In the Sukkah you should sit And eat and drink but never... If in the Sukk ah it should rain To stay there would be such a pain And if it should be very cold Stay there only if you're bold So build a Sukkah one and all Make it large or make it small Sukkah rules are short and snappy Enjoy Sukkos, rejoice be happy

Moshe, a new member of the shul, was asked to do hagbah. It was awful, a pitiful sight. He could barely lift the sefer Torah; he almost dropped it and, clutching it shakily, sat down very quickly. He was very embarrassed so he made a resolution to go to the gym and work out. For the next few months, he lifted weights and did push ups, sit ups, and pull ups. He got himself buff and ready. Simchat Torah came and Moshe was all set. He went to shul, all excited and ready to be ca...lled. It happened! He heard the gabbai call his name so he rushed up to the bima, grabbed the sefer Torah, lifted it, and, arms wide, opened up at least ten columns. He swung the Torah to the left and then to the right, according to the halakhah, so everyone could see the text. He felt very proud of his perfect hagbah. Turning to the gabbai he asked, "So, how was it?" "Well, Moshe, your hagbah was great, but I called you up for shlishi."

A Sukkot Joke: A secular Jew, Amir, goes to court to complain that Moshe, his neighbor's sukkah encroaches onto his property. The judge gives a verdict to Amir that Moshe has 8 days to remove the Sukkah :)
