The biggest challenge we’ve encountered during our 2-year yarnbombing project, #knittingthecommons, is staying true to our favorite style of transforming everyday objects into other things, especially when we’re only allowed to do the first foot of the branches. Throwback to that time Lorna tried to make her hair look like #knitting.

The latest addition to Lorna’s custom knitwear wardrobe: a custom tailored textured bolero cardigan with puffy sleeves and twisted rib hem. The sleeves were inspired by the Victorian cycling sweater we knit for Halloween last year. The yarn is just a craft store super bulky blend of alpaca and acrylic but it looks pretty nice with the natural fiber component and the color is great. It took 15mm (US 19) to get all this texture! A year and a half ago we started this #yarnbombing project @civiccentercommons called #KnittingTheCommons. Phase 1: Thread, a 60-tree project constructed and installed just by us two, aimed to almost literally lay a visual thread through the three diverse plazas that makeup the newly united commons: UN Plaza, Pioneer Monument, and Civic Center. Phase 2 began several months later with creatures, selected by the community, surveyed by local stewards. We’ve installed the creatur...es in a few rotations, selecting trees that Phase 1 indicated would be higher impact and lower vandalism. This #creativeplacemaking project is generously funded by @trustforpublicland who have been awesome just like everyone in SF. Modified #pebblestreethat by @softyarndesigns in @knit_picks superfine alpaca hot off the needles as a late gift for our dad. He requested a slouchy hipster hat for cold Denver mornings so this is a knock-off of a North Face design with modifications for a double layer twisted rib wide hem and extra length.
