June 19th - Juneteenth 2020 June 19th, also known as Juneteenth, is a historic day for African Americans in our country. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, arrived in Galveston, Texas with orders that all slaves in Texas were free in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation, issued on January 1, 1863. This was the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy. Dating back to 1866, communities celebr...ated this day. In the last several weeks BLM and the African American Community has made huge strides in their efforts to achieve equity and wipe out racism, and reimagine community policing and politics. KMS wishes to honor and recognize their efforts and achievements. KMS will be closing the offices on Friday June 19th, 2020 to allow everyone to reflect, celebrate and honor all the people who have moved these issues to the forefront of America’s conscience. From Robert L. McKenna III: Starting Monday, March 16th, both our Los Angeles and Orange County offices will be working remotely. Our firm uses cloud based technology that allows our lawyers, paralegals, legal assistants and others to access all of our files and firm data off site. This makes it easier for us to continue our daily functions as a law firm and our people to be home with their families, many of whom have children in school districts that have closed. As a large number of our clients are in the healthcare industry and on the front lines of this pandemic, we will be doing our part to help keep our communities safe. We have multiple platforms for video-conferencing and will use these technologies, as necessary for meetings, depositions and other critical firm functions. #kmslegal
