The minute you announce your engagement, the questions will begin. 'When's the wedding? Where will it be?' What an honor! If you have a super close bestie or sister, then chances are you knew this day was coming and you are ready for the job! But what exactly IS the job? Some things are obvious, and others, well not so much. 1) Being the bride's confidante in all matters of the wedding. That means listening to her endless banter about venues, colors, guest lists, family drama, centerpieces, and THE DRESS. This job requires being a good listen...er! 2) Plan (and attend) the bridal shower & bachelorette party. Sometimes it might mean that you are financially funding part or all of these events. Get on board with the other bridesmaids and get them participating at some level to alleviate the burden. 3) As head honcho, you will be responsible for managing the other bridesmaids! Making sure everyone is on time for hair & make-up and knows when and where to be for photos, ceremony line-up, and grand entrance. 4) Be the bride's right-hand-man on the big day. The job duties the day of are endless and actually start the day before at the rehearsal. The MOH is there to coordinate with family, help with getting ready, collect the bride's personal items for detail shots, make sure the groom doesn't accidentally run into the bride before the first look, hold/fix the bride's train & bouquet during photos and at the alter, bustle the bride's dress and hold the bride's cell phone and lipstick! 5) Give a toast/speech at the wedding. If you aren't a natural public speaker, this is likely the most dreaded task. PRO TIP: Don't wing it. Write your speech out and practice it! Feeling a little nostalgic today. I’m helping one of my brides plan a rustic summer wedding and thought I would flip through my own wedding photos for some inspiration. I love to relive the photos from our ceremony. We wrote our own vows and clearly we both went with wit and humor. We joined our two families and committed vows to our children. It was quite a perfect day all the way around. We had an intimate ceremony with 65 people in the historic Los Rios District in San Jua...n Capistrano and a small dinner reception at the Vintage Steakhouse, which was an old train car converted into a restaurant. Sadly, it’s no longer there. My dress was simple with the most beautiful details. One of my besties handmade my bridal belt and with the leftover materials she made my bridesmaids stunning one-of-kind bracelets. I was also luck enough to have another bestie do the florals for my wedding. I am still in awe of the beauty she created that day. I admit I beg my husband every year to renew our vows so that we can do this all over again. He’s such a good sport and said we can renew our vows every 10 years!
