To Our Kiwanis Family House Friends, The 2021 Big Day of Giving is coming Thursday, May 6th and we invite you and your friends to be part of this important event! Over the past year, we have all experienced significant challenges in our lives. From changing our social interactions to reimagining how we communicate with each other, we are coming through an unprecedented time, together. While it might have been easier for us to simply withdraw from the people around us, we are ...instead experiencing a resurgence in love and compassion for others. During our Big Day of Giving last year, we were at the height of uncertainty. We didn’t know what to expect, as we knew many people and organizations were financially affected. We were blown away, as we experienced our biggest Big Day of Giving! We were so grateful to all of you! Over the past year, we stepped up to ensure that the Family House would be able to continue to care for hundreds of families in need. We implemented additional safety protocols. These included reducing the number of rooms available to our guests to facilitate greater social distancing. While we believe this aided our ability to keep our guests and staff safe, it also had a measurable impact on our income. We know the last year has been a financial challenge to many, yet we are incredibly thankful for all of you who have continued to support the Family House, including financially as you have been able. Once again, we have an opportunity to come together during this annual event, to make a significant impact on the lives of hundreds of people in need who are facing medical crises. You can donate directly online at www.bigdayofgiving.org/kiwanisfamilyhouse or mail a check before May 6 to: Kiwanis Family House 2875 50th St Sacramento, CA 95817 Any donations received by mail between now and May 6th will be included in our Big Day of Giving totals. Thank you so much, we appreciate and treasure all of you! We hope you will forward our message to friends, family, and fellow club members. Thank you for all you do for our House! Sincerely, Dan Germain, Executive Director

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Past Division 44 Lt. Governor Bernard "Bernie" Bowes, Jr. this morning (Tuesday, July 28). Bernie was a board member of Kiwanis Family House from 2012-2015. He was also the President of the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta in 2009-2010 and Lt. Governor of Kiwanis Division 44 in 2011-2012. As you can see from these photos, Bernie loved life, loved his friends, and loved Kiwanis. He will be missed. We are sending our sincerest condolences to his wife Margaret (Margie) and the entire Bowes family.
Simple things keep us going. Ten-year-old Janessa is a burn patient from Western Nebraska. We see her and Mom Kelly a couple of times a year for appointments at Shriners Hospital for Children. Janessa made these on her last visit to Kiwanis Family House. We you too, Janessa!
In his own words, Past Kiwanis International President Dr. John Button discusses the impact of Kiwanis Familly House on healing and recovery. #wesavefamilies
We are saddened by the news of Dr. John Button’s passing. Dr. Button and his wife Debbie visited Kiwanis Family House in March of 2015 and met with a guest family during their visit. As a physician, Dr. Button recognized the vital role our House plays in healing patients and their families experiencing medical crisis. He also understood the value of our amazing project to the Kiwanis brand. Rest peacefully, kind sir.

Kiwanis Family House (KFH) does not tolerate racism. Inspired by core values that have enriched our service mission and vision for 36 years, we strive to foster awareness, generosity, respect, and a sense of community. Today, KFH adds its ears, voice, and heart to the emerging and historic opportunity to champion tolerance, respect, and equal justice for all persons in the United States and throughout the world. Black Lives Matter is a movement that is enlightening a grow...ing number of Kiwanis family members and clubs. Rising out of the tragic events in Minneapolis, many in the K-Family are joining the call for fundamental changes to societal norms, community ethos, and institutional practices. KFH fully embodies Kiwanis International’s ideals and embraces the responsibility of providing for the human and spiritual needs of those we serve. Further, KFH applauds the Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs in California, Nevada, and Hawai’i. These young adults are tomorrow’s leaders. Circle K, our university and college students, pledge at every meeting to advocate for the realization of humanity’s potential. Key Clubs, our high school students, proudly serve their communities under the banner of Caring Our Way of Life. Both organizations are responding to recent events by describing the future to which they aspire, one in which people listen, learn, and understand the life experience of people of color. They have a dream. The values of Kiwanis Family House align with that dream.
