Happy Easter to those who celebrate! Every year I pull out a yellowed piece of clipped newspaper from the Sunday, April 5, 1988 LA Times. It’s the cover story of their food section all about Easter breads which are usually enriched with milk and sugar and eggs. There are recipes from Greece, Italy, and Portugal, but every year I make the Hot Cross Buns, England’s contribution. Sometimes I use sourdough starter and sometimes I just stick close to the recipe as printed, but it’s alway delicious and how we start off Easter morning (or sometimes a little later, depending on how early I rise that morning....) Happy Sunday Friends! Did you know we celebrated 3 years this week? I’m remembering last year around this time when we had a party, poured the mimosas, welcomed in so many well-wishers and shoppers, and ate this whole giant delicious cake by @sugar_sweetery . This year, of course, is very different. No party, no crowds, no giant cake but my heart is still full of gratitude for all of you who helped us get through this crazy year. We really would not still be here if it wasn’t... for all your support. . And hasn’t it been A YEAR? To be truthful, it has taken a toll so I’m doing what I would never think of doing in a normal year: close up the shop and take a few days off to recharge and reconnect with my family.
