As we are starting to move towards our schools re-opening, please read the information below as meal service has changed. We know this will be an adjustment for all but we hope that with advance notice, we assist families in making this adjustment.

Our Anna Kirchgater students in our CREST club work outside of school to learn and grow. We are so proud of our scholars as the show their resilience and drive. They are always reaching for the stars. (We are missing a few wonderful scholars in our picture.) We thank Mrs. Solis for giving of her time and mentorship to our students.

Anna Kirchgater Elementary and EGUSD recognize and honor that, on this day in 1942, FDR signed Executive Order 9066, leading to the forced removal and internment of Japanese Americans. Elk Grove Unified takes this opportunity to pause and recognize the significance of February 19 as the Day of Remembrance. Today we celebrate Kelly Miller (18631939) as another important advocate and educator. Miller was the first black graduate student in Mathematics. In 1887, he became the first black man to be admitted to study at Johns Hopkins University, where he did post-graduate work in mathematics, physics and astronomy until 1889. He came to understand the importance of education to help foster strong black leaders. He then became a dean at Howard University and an active civil rights activist where he continued to push for access to higher education for all black Americans. We have an amazing community of caring, loving and compassionate people. Tell us how you or your child showed kindness this week. We look forward to hearing how they are blessing others in our community and lives.

We would like to thank all of the Veterans who have dedicated themselves to protecting our nation and our freedoms.

Today we celebrate another incredible woman and educator for Black History Month. The daughter of former slaves, Mary Jane McLeod Bethune became one of the most important black educators, civil and women’s rights leaders and government officials of the twentieth century. She was a lifelong educator- working as a teacher before founding Bethune-Cookman college which set educational standards for today’s black colleges. She went on to become the highest-ranking African American woman in government when President Franklin Roosevelt named her director of Negro Affairs of the National Youth Administration. #BlackHistoryMonth #maryjanemcleodbethune
