Literary giant and trailblazer #mayaangelou would have been 93 years young today! Let’s continue to celebrate her life and legacy #Repost @oprahdaily with @make_repost Dr. Maya Angelou would’ve been 93 today. @oprah says of her teacher and friend, Her greatest lesson to me: You are enough! The first time she said that, the words felt strange. ‘I am enough...of what?’ I asked. ‘You don't need another person, place, or thing to make you whole. God already did that. Your job is to know it.’ Let’s drop some for our forever inspiration!

Would you consider your organization a Glass Shattering Organization? #Repost @harvard_business_review with @make_repost As companies emerge from the pandemic, advancing gender equality may slip onto the backburner for many. That's a mistake. Losing sight of gender equity right now is likely to put those companies at a real disadvantage.... The barriers women face in the workplace are already well-documented, and there’s mounting evidence that pandemic is making the situation worse. In the U.S., women made up 80% of workers who left the labor force in September 2020. And the women who have held onto their jobs often find their work and parenting responsibilities all but impossible to manage, or are penalized for caregiving. These phenomena disproportionate job losses and workplace marginalization stem from the same root: undervaluing the contributions of women workers. But companies can resist the biases that lead to undervaluing female talent and gain a competitive edge. Swipe for 9 of those benefits. Thank you to Shaun King for this RP. As a Black woman owned business, we greatly appreciate and stand with Ben & Jerry's and their views regarding the attempted coup on January 6, 2021. White supremacist delusion has destroyed the lives of too many for too long.... And... It’s a new year and a new day. This past election, in the face of a pandemic that has ravaged this country, especially Black, Brown and Indigenous communities; there have been a number of statements made abundantly clear: - Black Lives Matter. - Black women have always been, and will always be pivotal to positive change in this country. - Communities that have been systemically marginalized in this country have shown that solidarity and power is possible and is being actualized every day. - White supremacist delusion and toxicity is destructive to everyone, including white people. - White allies are more than capable of, and are doing the work to dismantle white supremacy and oppression. - The Us vs. Them mentality will continue to erode the possibilities of a ...more perfect Union... if we stay committed to that way of thinking and operating. - We have a lot of work to do and it is being done. #newyearnewday2021 #Repost @shaunking with @make_repost 5 things... 1. @BenAndJerrys made more sense and spoke more truth here than 99.9% of elected officials. 2. #Repost @harvard_business_review with @make_repost It may be tempting to make your workplace a politics-free zone in the interest of team cohesion and unity. But during these times of political turmoil in the U.S., that's not a good idea, according to Emily Gregory, a vice president at VitalSmarts, a leadership training company. Putting down barriers about what people can and can’t say hurts team culture more than it builds it, she says. Topics shouldn’t be off-limits.... Prohibiting political conversation could also backfire, says Tina Opie, a professor of management at Babson College. People already feel they are rendered invisible because of what’s happening on the national stage, says Opie, and if you, the manager, make certain topics off limits, it could be viewed as sanctioning ignorance and even aggression. So many of today’s big issues concern social justice, equality, and basic human rights which are larger than politics. Leaders should already be supporting their teams in engaging in healthy, healing dialogues to move individuals and the organization forward after November 3rd. What is your organization doing to support the wellbeing of employees post-election and beyond? Leave a COMMENT below. . . . ... #Repost @harvard_business_review It’s hard not to talk about politics right now, but the U.S. election is igniting passions that are threatening workplace harmony. As a manager, what can you do to make sure conversations don’t go off the rails? And how can you help your team navigate the emotional road ahead? Start by modeling respectful behavior. Consider sending a message to your team acknowledging the gravity of the moment and the anxiety people might be feeling right now and reinforce a company culture of mutual respect and goodwill. Be sure to discourage misplaced political comments or banter in meetings, but do so in a way that doesn’t imply that you’re taking sides or censoring your employees’ right to express themselves. And if you feel like it’ll be helpful for team cohesion to create space for political discourse, reach out to HR for resources on how to facilitate a productive discussion. Don’t try to hold these conversations without the necessary support. Finally, regardless of your team members’ political ideologies, encourage everyone to vote. #Repost @harvard_business_review with @make_repost When faced with tough decisions, sometimes it's not enough to think critically. Leaders have to use the right type of thinking to inform their next steps. Aristotle explained this more than 2,000 years ago, outlining three types of knowledge and when to apply them:... 1. Techne was craft knowledge: learning to use tools and methods to create something. 2. Episteme was scientific knowledge: uncovering the laws of nature and other inviolable facts. 3. Phronesis was akin to ethical judgment: the perspective-taking and wisdom required to make decisions when competing values are in play. In the early weeks of 2020, for example, Covid-19 presented itself as a scientific problem, firmly in the epistemic realm. But then it emerged as a social crisis. Very quickly, needs arose for tough thinking about trade-offs the kind of political deliberation that considers multiple dimensions and is informed by different perspectives (Aristotle’s phronetic thinking). Leaders have also had to juggle everyday techne problems as they worked to keep operations effective. The ability to size up a situation and recognize kind of knowledge it calls for is a skill leaders can develop with deliberate practice. But the essential first step is simply to appreciate that different kinds of knowledge exist, and that it's a leader's responsibility to recognize which ones are called for, and when. No matter what, don’t stop #growing #Repost @drnortontherapy with @make_repost Each day we grow and learn from our past .... it’s key to pay attention and note when the changes are noticeable !! ... A big indicator of progress are changes in your thinking patterns. You have less negative or destructive thoughts and more positive, constructive thoughts. Rather than fantasizing about things that aren’t attainable, you’re engaging in more realistic thinking and developing reachable goals. Thoughts lead to actions, so as your thinking shifts, your behaviors will shift as well. It can be beneficial to start a journal to process these improvements. It can help to show that progress is being made. Positive self-talk can come into play when utilizing this journal - write down positive affirmations and how proud you are of your accomplishments.
