After Beverly began to feel sick and experienced shortness of breath, she was admitted to a hospital and diagnosed with COVID-19 that led to her developing respiratory failure. She was placed on a ventilator and began to receive antibiotic treatments for infection. After being transferred to Kindred Hospital, she started on aggressive respiratory therapy and began to make progress. Within a couple of weeks after her arrival, Beverly was free of the ventilator and was able to ...stand on her own and begin walking with the aid of a rolling walker, and her pressure wounds had healed. If anyone needs wound care or respiratory therapy, this is the best place to be! Beverly said before being discharged. I have had the best care while in this hospital. I would like to thank all the staff for taking such good care of me, and extra special thanks to my CNA Lasonya, my RN Rayeann, Sarah and Tak in respiratory therapy and Caleb, my PT. Everyone has been amazing! See more

Sitibahbah was brought to Kindred Hospital Paramount from a short-term hospital where she had undergone surgery and started treatment for a severe gastrointestinal condition that led to an acute infection that nearly claimed her life. Her recovery was further complicated by end-stage kidney disease, severe malnutrition and calorie deficiency. Sitibahbah was also fighting COVID-19 at the beginning of her journey to recovery, which had caused her to suffer a pulmonary embolism.... The team at Kindred began to assist her recovery with a plan that involved several disciplines working together to help Sitibahbah regain her health and quality of life, and although the healing process was very gradual, she made steady progress over the six months that she would spend at Kindred. When she was finally ready to be discharged her team had healed her deep pressure wound, resolved all traces of infection, restored her appetite and ability to eat a normal diet, and brought back her normal lung function. Sitibahbah is a very pleasant and lively person, and we were all very happy that she was able to recover and be discharged after being with us for so long, said Ramya, the director of quality management at the facility. During her stay we not only got to know her very well, we also met her family who would often come by for window visitations and to encourage her. We also were able to arrange for something very special; by observing strict COVID visitation protocols, Sitibahbah’s granddaughter came to Kindred to do expert hair braiding on the patio, which lifted spirits and created many smiles!

He looked forward to the last step of his journey to recovery before going home at last. I can’t wait to go home, Arnold affirmed before leaving the facility. I’m looking forward to seeing my grandkids and having a good home-cooked meal!

My main goal is to get back to a normal life after COVID, Marvin shared just before he was cleared to be discharged. Shortness of breath and chest pain originally led the retired police officer to the hospital where he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and had to be placed on a ventilator when he stopped being able to breathe on his own. Additional complications followed, including kidney failure, septic shock and uncontrollable pain, and Marvin was then transferred to Kindred Ho...spital to receive respiratory therapy and rehabilitation. My nurses and all the staff here helped me and motivated me to get better, and I want everyone to take this very seriously because I know firsthand it is a very real sickness. Everyone who helped me from the time I was admitted to the ER and to my discharge from Kindred pulled me out of the grave and I will be forever grateful. See more

Stacy is an administrative assistant at Kindred Hospital and helps to not only keep hospital leadership organized and on point, she also helps across other departments with hospital events, meetings and employee activities. Stacey is always willing to help and fill in wherever she is needed from sitting in at the front desk, to making calls or whatever else is needed and she always does it with a smile! said Amy, the patient relations representative. I really love hel...ping people, Stacy affirmed. Working in healthcare is very interesting and rewarding as you learn something new every day and it’s wonderful to see how we help our patients get their health back, so they can go on to the next level of care or even better, back home to their families. My job is fun and fulfilling and no two days are alike. And even though I’m always busy, because I love what I do it never feels like a chore. See more

Cedric came to Kindred Hospital Paramount after being hospitalized and undergoing multiple surgeries for severe injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident. When he first arrived, Cedric was still in an unresponsive state and dependent on his team of caregivers for all his needs. He also relied on a ventilator to support his breathing and tested positive for COVID-19. Although Cedric’s condition posed a significant challenge to his team, his respiratory therapists immed...iately began to work with him, and he started to make progress. With his mother providing unwavering support, Cedric steadily improved until he was able to be taken off the ventilator completely. He also began to regain the ability to start communicating verbally, using a few words and making eye contact as his neurological status began to improve as well. With help from his physical and occupational therapists, Cedric was able to start transferring from his bed to sitting upright and into a wheelchair and was ready to be discharged from Kindred to continue on his journey to recovery with acute rehabilitation before going home to his family. The rehabilitation team at Kindred never gave up on my son and continued to work with him daily helping him to improve, Cedric’s mother shared. I consider them Heaven sent! I appreciate everything Kindred has done during his stay and how everyone here played a major part in my son’s recovery. Not only did you help him medically, but you treated him like family which I feel truly helped him come out of the unresponsive state he was in. You were there for him emotionally, and that means a lot to us.

Vanessa is an LPN at Kindred Hospital. The recently awarded Employee of the Month shared some insights about what it’s like working at the long-term acute care hospital. I got into nursing because I wanted a job where I could help people every day, Vanessa affirmed. My days are always busy, and I value the sense of teamwork and camaraderie we have here because when I or someone else needs help, all we have to do is ask. It’s the most wonderful feeling to hear a patient tell me that they feel better after I’ve taken care of them. If you are looking for a fulfilling caregiver career, go to jobs.kindredhealthcare.com.

Linda is the clinical pharmacist at Kindred Hospital, where she has worked for over 10 years. She shared what led her to become a pharmacist and what drives her love for her line of work. I became interested in clinical pharmacology in high school when a teacher discussed it with me, and as they say the rest is history! Linda said. I really enjoy working at a small hospital where you get to know all your co-workers and where my department is involved in patient care decisions. In addition to my regular tasks, one of my favorite daily routines is to round with physicians and the patient advocate, which is very beneficial as I’m able to provide input while decisions are being made. I also enjoy working with pharmacy students when they are with us as part of their rotation and always try to spend part of my day with them.

Isiah suffered severe fractures and wounds from a motorcycle accident and had to be placed on a ventilator and a feeding tube. Unfortunately, he became a paraplegic due to his injuries and was transferred to Kindred Hospital where he could receive advanced respiratory therapy, wound care and rehabilitation. By the time Isiah was ready to be discharged from Kindred to continue his journey to recovery, he was able to transfer from his bed to his wheelchair. Sometimes I didn’t want to do things, but my team didn’t let me stop, Isiah shared. My new body is challenging me to understand what is possible but I won’t stop until I find a new baseline. My entire team did more for me than I could have asked for I came to that realization here at Kindred and quite frankly, the biggest lesson for me was learning to ask for help.
