I’ve been really paying attention to the world around me. ... The people I pass on my walks, at the grocery, pumping gas, and sitting next to me at a stoplight. It’s so easy to look down and not pay attention. It happens to me often. I zone out and look at my phone... Kindness becomes a lifestyle when we choose to start small. Today, I’m going to commit to being patient with my children (I lost my noodles last night) and patient with myself. To look up and out in hopes to bring a smile to someONE’S pretty face. Our children will notice. Our neighbors will notice. But most importantly you will go to sleep tonight knowing you made a difference today. I have a LOVE - hate relationship with Santa Monica... I love the fresh ocean air, everyone’s unique styles, riding bikes with the wind blowing my hair are just a few It hurts my heart sooooo bad seeing the homeless, the mentally ill, the people who slept on the beach overnight. My brain instantly goes to what are you doing to help those who cannot help themselves Marni? ... I remind myself of the saying I once heard... You cannot help everyONE but you can help someONE. And people who need a hand aren’t always as far as you think. I’ve needed sooooo many hands the past 5 years I cannot count them! I bet we all know someONE who could use a quick HELLO how are you call? Not a text. A voice. Or a prayer. Or what about taking the TIME to stop and buy fruit from the person sweating their butts off on the street corner selling fruit so they can buy food for their family? Kindness isn’t an act. It’s a choice? And in my home it’s a commitment. A habit. A lifestyle. Kindness, thoughtfulness, consideration, and being nice becomes a way of life when you practice it daily. I’ve thought about the tribe of woman who raised me... my mother, my grandmother, friends moms, boyfriends moms, teachers, Oprah, Maya Angelou, Pastors, friends, and the many others I’ve learned from through their books/stories. You become who you read, who you hang out with, what you watch & listen too, and who you worship. HAPPY SWEET 16 WYNTER ROSE. I want you to know that I still see the baby girl in you. As your mother, I’ll always see the curly hair BIG blue eyed little girl, no matter how old you get. But I also seeand believe inthe beautiful woman you’re growing into that has the same qualities my grandmother told me I had at 16. Kind, caring, thoughtful, considerate, wise, and beautiful. Believe me Wynter. Anyone who knows me knows that I believe in Jesus. I believe in miracles. I believe in forgiveness. I believe in feeding the hungry. I believe it’s better to give them receive. I believe that the size of your home doesn’t make you a good hostess. I believe that the car you drive doesn’t make for a better ride. I believe the more your love without conditions will bring you peace. I believe the more you give the more free you will be to live a life that matters. Sitting here with big TEARS. Where is he? Is he safe and sound? Is he sheltered in place? Does he have a place? We would stop daily to talk and listen to him sing. He loves Finn. Finn loves him. We even exchanged phone numbers and spoke every now and again. I’m defiantly teaching my children that we probably can’t help the whole world, but we can ABSOLUTELY help someONE’s world. It’s the little love that we show others that make the world better. Do it for him. Do it for Finn. Let's get together and feel all right.
