Why would I move my program virtual if it takes 10x more time and work, for 10x less pay? It’s because I value health and safety. It’s because I care about the families who need to stay home due to having a high risk family member. ... It’s because I care about the children who can’t be with friends in person, and want to socialize with peers on virtual play dates. It’s because I care about the children who are feeling stuck at home, and need to go on some virtual field trips, all over the world, to feel a sense of freedom. It’s because I heard parents’ concerns about children falling behind, or not having the opportunity to prepare for kindergarten. It’s because I care. A lot. Is virtual right for everyone? Absolutely not. If parents are using it to keep their children busy so they can do other things, there can be a power struggle. If children sense that parents don’t care about them, or don’t have time for them, they may not want to listen to them, or consider anything they suggest. The home environment is important. The condition of the parent-child relationship is very important as well. Children feed off of parents’ attitude and perspective. If parents are questioning something, a child can feel insecure, and that can cause problems, too. Parents are children’s first teachers. They are their children’s strongest role models. Childcare and teaching can be delegated, but parenting cannot. I can teach parents how to scaffold, and teach parenting skills, but if their heart’s not in it, what results can they expect? This is a virtual preschool and pre k program, not home therapy, and it’s certainly not boarding school. The #1 predictor of virtual program success is the home environment. In person, I was so picky with whom I hired. Everything that’s said to a child, and how, makes a big impact. An old employee quit because she said my expectations (of childcare workers) was too high. It better be - we’re taking care of children. I’m looking forward to reopening in person. I understand that some parents have their hands full already... I will work on that after everyone in my family gets the coronavirus vaccine. Contact me to get on the waiting list. When the time comes, I will contact those on the list for tours and interviews. In person, I enroll children one at a time so I can focus the right amount of time and attention to help new children adjust, as well as develop their personalized learning plan.

I believe that children shouldn’t be exposed to just one type of learning style. They should have it all. Why not? The way I teach academics is similar to Montessori, but the materials and methods are different. It’s personalized, too. I offer a play-based environment like Waldorf and Reggio Emilia, and let children play naturally. I encourage and promote a love of learning and exploring. I offer developmentally appropriate activities. Some activities and field trips are on a... routine like Waldorf. I serve mixed ages like Montessori and Waldorf. The group curriculum is ever changing and spontaneous like Reggio Emilia. I enjoy offering a variety of ways for children to learn and explore. I’m so excited for tomorrow. My son has no school and he will be working with me tomorrow. We’re going to be teaching preschoolers about winter solstice since it’s the first day of winter! We will be reading books, doing a demonstration, singing songs, and the other usual circle time activities.

One of the reasons why I love what I do: A four year old started my program two months ago. They didn’t recognize most of their letters. In just about two months, not only do they know all their letters, but they know almost all their letter sounds. Two months. Talk about a bang for the buck! Seeing children succeed and feel joy over what they can do, makes me really happy. I’m happy to help children see their potential, and soar.
