FILMMAKERS and fans of Netflix's award winning THE CROWN -- I'm moderating a discussion sponsored by Netflix and Alliance of Women Directors - AWD with the award winning Jessica Hobbs, director of multiple Season Three episodes of THE CROWN. AWD started these "teas" as a way to have special educational internal events for AWD only however with Netflix support we are now opening them, free, to non-members as well. Come learn about directing historical drama, and watch me try not to turn into an enormous, giddy geek. https://www.allianceofwomendirectors.org//special-tea-wit/

On this day in 1942, the U.S. retaliated against Japan for the attack on Pearl Harbor with a strike against Tokyo. 16 B-25s launched from the USS Hornet and bom...bed the greater Tokyo area in what would be coined the Doolittle Raid, as it was led by Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle. We commemorated the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid three years ago during #OSH17. Chris Miller See more

Once Alyson and I were underway, it was time to cast Celia. The younger sister was a FANTASTIC role. We needed someone with an ebulent endearing quality with s...erious acting chops. Why Chelsea Alden didn’t come to mind immediately I have NO good explanation for because as I have come to discover she literally can do ANYTHING. Because this is Dorothea’s story, perhaps I pictured Celia more of an easily hoodwinked gal who just liked shiny objects. Or perhaps I was thinking of a British actress, already replete with accent. (True.) Thankfully at a casting suggestion from @24mark7 I brought her in to read - and those of you who know her work (which by now includes half the country, or ALL of the country that regularly watches television) know that Chelsea of course CRUSHED it. The sisterly chemistry was immediate, and @chelsea.alden brought a charm and a wit to Celia that was unique and irreplaceable. Chelsea was busy shooting @13reasonswhy at the time we cast, so we quickly got our @sagaftra paperwork together and brought Chelsea on to our ambitious proof of concept for MIDDLEMARCH. Next up, the right costumes and vocal training for both actresses to nail that English Midlands accent moreover one from 1832- But first, a LOCATIONsuitable for recreating a scene from this iconic novel in modern Los Angeles. . . . . .
