Update: We have had hundreds of inquiries to book birthday parties for 20, 30, 50 and 80 people since October. It is quite concerning that the community are still planning and continue to have large gatherings. While we do miss all of you, Alameda County Public Health and Berkeley Health Department has very clear instructions regarding indoor playgrounds , theme parks Open Gym and birthday parties are absolutely not allowed and NOT safe to reopen until we are down to Yellow ...Tier. When in doubt with what activities and businesses are allowed to do, always go by the more restrictive rule. The only service available at the moment since the SIP is Distance Learning Camp which is kept at a very small group of kids with the same instructors...ALWAYS! Please do your part to flatten the curve and stay within your small bubble so we can get out of this horrible situation and get back to a better & healthier situation. Stay safe!

A fierce advocate for the autism community along with her son Mu perished this morning in a tragic house fire in Fremont. Feda Almaliti fought hard to pass the law along with Karen Fessel to have ABA treatment, speech therapy and occupational therapy be covered under insurance. She sued Kaiser Permanente when they did not cover any necessary treatment for anyone on the spectrum, now Kaiser and other insurance carriers now have a division solely dedicated for the Autism Spectrum Disorder mainly for ABA. A true warrior mom who fought hard for her son and the special needs community. We are forever grateful for everything you have done for all of us, paving the way navigating this challenging and rewarding journey having a child on the spectrum. Rest in paradise Feda & Muhammad Almaliti.

Dear Parents & Camp Kids, Aside from the electrical issues today, smoke filled air and horrible air quality we are dealing with today, unfortunately we have to do an emergency lockdown here at Kids Gym Berkeley. It is imperative that we interrupt and pause distance learning support camp until the end of next week (depending on BPD) to ensure the safety of all the kids and staff. There is a viable and very dangerous threat that we are not taking lightly, unfortunately we are... still waiting for the Berkeley Police Department to do their part, job and be responsive enough to ensure the threat is completely cleared and they protect and serve your/our kids and staff here. This Covid-19 and understaffed police department is not helping any to protect the safety of our community and Kids Gym Berkeley. We are doing everything we can to resolve and eliminate all the issues as soon as possible so that the kids can get back to their routine. I hired a trained security company to protect the gym and on post even during closure because Berkeley Police Department is not readily available, sadly. Again, I am deeply sorry for this disruption and inconvenience this is causing all of you, kids routines especially now that they are just getting back to school. The staff and kids safety are my number 1 priority....always. Nowadays we can never be too vigilant. As a mom, I am listening to my gut and unfortunately a very viable threat, I am not willing to take any chances. I cc'd Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin, Council Woman Cheryl Davila of District 2 and Officer Byron White (I don't have Chief Greenwood's contact info) for you parents / staff to contact directly to get their attention and help us move things along as our public officials. I have yet to hear from the officers or public officials regarding this situation and it truly is unacceptable. This is a children's place with higher purpose to serve all kids including those with special needs and it is not given the priority it deserves.
