Landis Chase Lim, a 17-year-old Asian boy, was fatally shot on Thursday, Feb. 28, in the 1000 block of East 11th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner records. Landis was in a garage facing an alley behind East 11th Street around 5:15 p.m. when a light-colored four-door sedan drove into the alley, heading east, and someone inside began shooting into the garage, according to a news release from the Long Beach Police Department. The gu...nfire struck Landis and a 34-year-old woman who was also in the garage, according to the news release. When officers arrived, they found Landis in the alley with a gunshot wound in his upper torso. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:35 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest. The woman was found in her residence with a gunshot wound to the leg. She was also taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries, which she was expected to survive. Investigators said Landis and the woman were family friends. The motive for the shooting is unknown, according to the news release. Landis' aunt has started an online fundraiser to help his family.
