When you have a breast implant condition, a timely and proper explant - removal of your implants and the capsule tissue - is crucial. As soon as the explantation of the implants and capsule tissue are thoroughly removed, you will most likely feel a reduction or even complete resolution of your symptoms and discomfort. There is a possibility that some symptoms may linger and even return until your body has been able to naturally detox everything out of the system and had time to heal. This is an emotional subject, but I thought it would be appropriate to bring it up today, being that it is: #WorldCancerDay. For my patients 40 and older, I always stress the importance of annual mammogram screening. Select women with a strong family history of #BreastCancer may need to start at an earlier age - this is something to definitely ask your doctor about. For patients with very dense breast tissue, these are often combined with a breast ultrasound. I always check ...my patients' mammography reports. In this particular case, reviewing her actual films with my friendly radiologist was very important. This is a view of a mammogram, which shows a mass in the lower breast pole (green circle). You can see white titanium clips within the mass from when it was previously biopsied. Fortunately, this is a non-cancerous benign breast mass. However, this patient will be undergoing breast reduction. And since I commonly use a superior or superior-medial based pedicle to maintain blood flow to the nipple-areola complex, this mass should be well within the lower tissue that I plan to remove! Please be safe. Get your annual mammogram screening if you are over 40 years old or if breast cancer runs in the family. Let's be safe and take any preventative measures we can.
