Teenager, very athletic, track, etc. Developed 1-1/2 inch heel spurs which were surgically removed. Chronic continuing pain in ankles and restricted r-o-m. Two sessions of MSTR and pain down 90%, can walk without pain and has normal r-o-m.... Think of what this can do for you. Surgical scars, scars from accidents can be causing pain and restriction for you. Get relief.
When I began learning and doing Bowen I was also studying Osteopathic indirect techniques. What I appreciate about the Osteopathic work is that there was continual reference and return to assessment. Seeing the areas of restriction, ranking them in severity, then addressing and then re-assessing as the ranking could and often did change was a great time for accepting the body's wisdom. Feeling the body self-regulating in real time kept my eyes and mind open to the the subt...le input and profound effects of Bowen. I understood and accepted the rest periods between sets of Bowen moves as a result much more easily. I am grateful for the Osteo training as the type of assessment it offered filled a gap for Bowen work while providing synergistic results.
I started doing massage therapy in 1977, after a friend suggested it would be a way to support my art. Positive, and helping people, she said. She was right. I found I wanted to problem solve and help people overcome their pain and injuries. I studied Olympic sports massage which incorporated a variety of methods. One of those methods was an Osteopathic technique, Strain-Counterstrain. It was a way of partnering with the body to painlessly restore mobility and relieve pain.... I was hooked. Studied with the developer of the technique and saw how powerful it was. Then I had a chance to learn more indirect (i.e., no joint adjustment) techniques from another groundbreaking Osteopath and learned assessment and treatment in Functional Indirect Technique. It gave me a way to work with all the body, gently and effectively. Seeing how the body could respond from gentle, indirect inputs showed me how vital it was to work "with" the body as a healing partner instead of "on it". This meant when I was introduced to Bowen with its emphasis on partnering with the body to mobilize its own healing process I could enthusiastically embrace all it had to offer. I feel blessed to be able to bring these tools to my daily practice.
I got started with Bowen back in 1994. Patrik Rousselot a French P.T. told me it was a great modality. He was going to be demoing it at a massage therapy show. I drove to meet him but he was delayed about 30 minutes. His presentation partner, Gene Dobkin said he could show me what the work felt like. I laid down on the table and I could feel the difference in 5 minutes time. I rolled off the table and asked when the next class was. Patrik taught me the initial Bowen sequences in the 5 day boot camp setup at the time and I was on my way. Twenty-five years later, it is still dear to my and my clients' hearts.
Wow! Just finished a Zone Technique workshop this weekend. Such a powerful time. Learned more about speeding people's healing from musculo- skeletal and organic conditions. Digestive problems like IBS to Migraines to neurologic issues dealt with effectively bringing healing back to the client. Come in and see what I mean (when S-I-P) allows it, of course.
