Do you have household hazardous waste such as home-generated sharps, used motor oil, or cleaning chemicals? Don’t throw it in the trash! Drive through and drop it off at the Kern Valley Transfer Station. This transfer station collects household hazardous waste twice a year! Communities of southeast Kern County: the Mojave-Rosamond Landfill is open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Accepted wastes include clean inerts, electronic waste, greenwaste, motor oil, tires, and ordinary household trash. Several roads across Kern County will temporarily close this month due to utility work. Buekrle Road, from Elk Grove Road to Palomas Avenue, is expected to close at 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, and open at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11. A detour is available. Kent Drive, at the intersection with Sandy Lane, is expected to close at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, and open later in the day at 3:30 p.m. Motorists are asked to use an alternate route.... Lakewood Drive, from east of Lakewood Place to the end of the road, is expected to close at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, and open at 7 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15. Mt. Pinos Way, from West End Drive to Hale Trail, is expected to close at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, and open at 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15. Tehachapi Willow Springs Road, from Highline Road to Backus Road and at Cameron Road and Oak Creek Road, closed at 11 p.m. yesterday, Nov. 7, 2020, due to black ice. Mud, snow, and ice caused several road closures in Kern County today, Nov. 7, 2020. Cerro Noreste Road, 0.75 miles south of Mil Potrero Highway (snow gate), closed at 12 p.m. due to snow and ice. Water Canyon Road, from Highline Road to the end of the road, closed at 12:45 p.m. due to snow and ice. Only residents with identification are allowed.... Comanche Point Road, westbound of Jack Hills Road, closed at 12:30 p.m. because it was impassible due to mud. Hudson Ranch Road, from Highway 166 to Mil Potrero Highway, closed at 2:30 p.m. due to snow and ice. The estimated time of reopening is currently unknown. Woodford Tehachapi Road, from Westwood Boulevard to Highway 58, closed at 11:30 a.m. today, Nov. 7, 2020, due to a vehicle collision. There is no freeway access.
