In its February 26th Order, the California Supreme Court confirmed that the July 2021 bar exam will be administered online. In Henrik Nilsson's March 2nd Daily Journal article, "California Bar exam to be administered remotely, again," Dean Mitch Winick is quoted as saying, " 'the bar is taking the right steps to offer the [bar] exam online, but there are challenges that must be solved.' Dean Winick is specifically concerned that 'there continue to be too many reported instances where individual examinees have their examination disrupted due to technical issues. The state bar needs to demand that the exam providers do a better job of problem solving and providing live technical support for examinees during the exam sessions.' "

Ground-breaking research published today reports that the high minimum passing score (cut score) on the California bar exam does not result in greater public protection but does result in racially and ethnically disparate pass rates on the California bar exam. Examining the California Cut Score: An Empirical Analysis of Minimum Competency, Public Protection, Disparate Impact, and National Standards, was funded by a research grant from the AccessLex Institute to Monterey College of Law.
