Yesterday was a bit surreal. Being nominated next to some of my long-time heroes was an honor that is difficult to put words to...(but I'm gonna try :)) Of cour...se receiving the nom with my dear friend and work-dad, Snuffy Walden, is a beautiful thing. His art has impacted so many. Mark Isham's River Runs Through It score was one of THE most influential for me growing up and it's fun to see Cindy O'Connor and Mike Simon joining me as a nom newb. Ramin Djawadi is just exceptional (ahem, double nom) and holds a unique place in my mind as the only composer whose managed to make my personal list of favorite film themes with an electric guitar lead (Pacific Rim-you're welcome for that being stuck in your head the rest of the day) Sean Callery is the text-book for creative series scoring. Anyone coming up in television can't help but be influenced by his amazing work. This is a double edged sword however as inevitably we'll have to compete with something undeniably amazing of his an editor has used in the friggin' temp!! Finally, Kevin Kiner Music. The first time I saw an episode of Clone Wars, my first thought was "Who the crap is scoring this?!?!" Every episode sounds like the score for a $100m film with amazing themes and clever development. Kevin is the real deal. I will consider it an honor to lose to any of you. Except Snuffy....that's actually a win.
