Do you know what you’re eating? . If you eat fresh produce, wax is on the list . Unless your produce is obtained directly from the tree/stalk, it will most likely have a coating of wax on it.... . The wax doesn’t come off with water or soap. It only comes off if you have it in hot water for a while, an acid solution (like vinegar or lemon juice), or if you scrape it off like I have here. And yes, these are organic apples. . The wax is used to help give the produce a longer shelf life. But did you know that fruits like apples, plums, and pears create their own natural wax? It’s perfectly harmless and digestible. The farmers will wash away most of the natural wax with the dirt after picking, and then apply a coating of shellack, beeswax, carnauba wax, petroleum, or resin. This extra coating can cause issues with respiratory or digestive systems, including ulcers and infections. . Of course, a little won’t hurt, but if you frequent fresh produce, it might be a good long-term strategy to give your produce a hot water or lemon juice bath before rinsing and consuming them. . How much wax is on your produce? . #apple #foodsafety #fruitwax #selfcare #didyouknow #cutco @cutcocutlery See more

Oh so grateful I can yet again share and teach this wonderful modality with professionals around the world!! 2020 was quite rough with not being able to travel, and trying to figure out ways to teach a hands-on manual course from afar when the gathering restrictions in Asia finally lifted. . We finally figured it out, so for the last 2 nights, I’ve stayed up until 4:30am (I routinely go to bed at 10pm) teaching these wonderful physios, trainers, pilates instructors, and ...medical professionals of the east and west. . How did I do it? How did I not only stay up that late two days in a row, but be MENTALLY SHARP the whole time? . Oh, and I was still outside going to my normal acro jams both days before teaching! . I’ll share how I did it in my next newsletter. It’s pretty easy, actually. . If you haven’t signed up for my newsletters, you can do that on my website (link in bio). Some good gems will get emailed to you on an occasional basis. . And if there’s anything you want me to write about, I take requests . #selfcaresunday #selfcare #sleep #teachinglife #ilovemyjob #anatomy #skeleton #manualtherapy #brain #neurokinetictherapy #neurology #lifehacks #lifehack #zoom #travellife #travellife #imisstravelling #quarantine #problemsolving #missyou See more

BUNIONS! . Snowboarding HARD for 4 days straight made my bunion (from decades of martial arts) hurt. So I did a signature Strength Therapy Kinesiotaping job, specific to bunions, and some super simple exercises to go along with it. . Feeling way better already, and the inflammation disappeared within a minute of applying the tape!... . Do you want to know how to customize tape jobs to the person and condition? Check out our Integrated Kinesiotaping Concepts Workshop on our website (link in bio)! The bunion example is in the course, along with other applications and concepts so you can mix and match taping with the person and modalities! . This is such a simple and effective way to make a big difference in your clients’ results, and it’s easy to teach them how to do it themselves (you can tape yourself, too! #selfcare ) . Check out our Integrated Kinesiotaping Concepts Workshop on our Strength Therapy Website (link in bio) for the know-how, the know-WHERE, and the know-WHYs to tape! . #kinesiotape #kinesiotaping #therapy #therapist #therapistsofinstagram #tape #bunions #bunion #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapist #physio #physiotherapist #sportstherapy #sports #snowboarding See more

Build yourself so weaknesses can’t find a place to live. They are only temporary visitors in your body...if you let them. . The guy I’m holding over my head @nayr0 is 185 lbs and 6’5 tall. He doesn’t get to fly much because of his size. I enjoy basing him (so he gets to fly) because of his size. .... My shoulder is currently experiencing some limitations because of a snowboarding fall a couple months ago that I just haven’t gotten around to addressing yet (my fault entirely), but that hasn’t stopped me from continuing my strength training, acroyoga practice, and PLAYtime. . Letting lessenings (injuries, weaknesses, and anything that makes you feel less than yourself) get in the way of you living your life how you want to and feel how you want to will fill your life with regrets. I wish I had done/gone/played/etc... . Don’t let your life be ruled by lessenings. Rule your life with strength, joy, love, and ability. . This is why self care is so important. . #selfcare #friday #acroyoga #ladybase #strongwomen #strongchicks #playtime #playtimewithfriends #sandiego #acro #acrolove See more

New Year, New You. It’s that time again. But why wait? Why not start now with the habits you want to develop so you can BE a better version of yourself in the New Year instead of struggling to TRY based on an arbitrary start date? . In the Chinese tradition, New Years is a 10-day long celebration where you spend an additional 2 weeks preparing prior to the celebration. There’s a lot of cleaning, purging, reorganizing, and introduction of new stuff so that you can enter the Ne...w Year with fresh, clean energy, habits, and life. You don’t wait until New Year’s Day to start cleaning, begin new habits, etc. You already ARE new when the NYD begins. . Don’t bring your old junk into the New Space (Space meaning physical space, time, energy, etc...) . Who cares that it’s not a Monday or the beginning of a month or year or whatever. It’s a day. And the best day to start a new habit is yesterday. The next best day is today. . We all stray off course from time to time. The good news is, you don’t have to wait to get yourself back on track. . Start NOW. . You are the culmination of your habits. Create who you want to be by being that person now. . . . #selfcare #healthyhabits #dailyhabits #littlethingsaddup #newyearnewyou #startagain #startingnow #newyear #newyearsresolution #chinesenewyear #cny #startnow See more

Do you give thanks just when you’re expected to? . Social conditioning of when to have gratitude can hinder our practice of having gratitude. . But why is that important?... . Practicing gratitude regularly has actually been proven to improve health and well-being, in every sense (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health). It’s a mood-booster, calming, stress-reducer, and it allows you to be in the now . But this only comes with true gratitude, not just routinely saying thank you because you’ve been conditioned to do so at specific times. . Try FEELING thankful whenever you verbally express gratitude, rather than just go through the motions. And then work towards feeling gratitude more often, at least once or twice a day. . Take note of how you feel now, how you feel after feeling it, and how you feel after doing it consistently for a week, month, year. Take note of how your health is, your mood, your general outlook on life, and what great things happen in your life during that time. . Make every day a Day of Thanks. Make gratitude a practice, not a politeness. . Comment below with some things/people/etc that you are grateful for. And then take a moment to FEEL it. . Happy Thanksgiving . . #thanksgiving #givethanks #gratitude #gratitudeisapractice #selfhelp #selfcare #strengththerapy See more

Heat or ice? . Are you wondering which is better for injuries? . Well, the answer is it depends.... . It depends on what your goal is, and what stage of the injury it’s in, and what type of injury it is . Ice will usually prevent inflammation from increasing, and perhaps lower it slightly, and decreases pain via numbing effect. Therefore it is pretty good for acute sprains and like injuries when you just want to prevent the inflammation from getting worse, and to numb the pain quickly . Heat is good for calming the soft tissue, increasing circulation of both lymph and blood (which can decrease inflammation), which aids in the healing process. So heat is useful for chronic injuries, and healing acute injuries (like sprains and breaks) after the initial incident. It’s a good addition to any rehab program to keep the circulation going (that’s how the body sends helper material to rebuild damaged tissue and get rid of junk particles) when it’s not in active use . There’s a bit more to the injury-healing thing, but this should help direct when you should be using ice and when you should be using heat. . Whatever you do, 2 things to definitely keep up no matter what: Hydration and Attitude . Hydrate to keep your insides lubricated so things can get transported to the correct places inside and outside of your body and so cells/organs can function properly. . Attitude can help speed up or slow down the healing process, because you will radiate that type of energy (healing/positive, or destructive/negative), which will affect how your body functions and heals. . .
