A silver lining to divorce? http://www.nytimes.com//the-divorce-diet-losing-a-spouse-a
FLEXCOM, the Family Law Executive Committee for the Family Law Section of The State Bar of California is in the news although credit for passage into law of SB ...1255 (Anti-Davis legislation) must be shared w/ ACFLS (The Association for Certified Family Law Specialists), AAML (American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers - SoCal & NorCal) and other groups. Moorlach’s bill won bipartisan support in the Legislature, with backing from legal groups, including the State Bar’s Family Law Section. Often, one spouse cannot afford to move to a separate residence, and can only afford such a move once a divorce is finalized, the Family Law Section’s executive committee said in a letter to lawmakers. This bill would remedy this situation, ensuring nobody is forced to either continue in a bad marriage, or face being forced out of the residence.
California is moving in this direction -- interesting article. http://www.huffingtonpost.com//maybe-he-doesnt-hit-you-but
Federal judge sanctions a male lawyer for making a sexist comment to female opposing counsel - he said it wasn't "becoming of a woman" for her to raise her voice at him. And his client had to pay the costs of the deposition where it happened. http://www.therecorder.com/id=1202747045548

Always interesting to read about a new palimony case -- no matter how unwinnable they always seem to turn out. http://www.therecorder.com//Broadcom-CoFounder-Sued-by-ExG
Chocolate mousse cake from a happy client
So happy! I'm the co-chair of the new Pas de Deux guild at Segerstrom Center for the Arts -- with a specific charter of raising money for students at the Gillespie School, which is the new west coast school for American Ballet Theatre. So keep tuned for even more dance news from me. And who knows -- maybe the next Misty Copeland or Herman Cornejo is growing up right here and we will be able to help them!
So excited to discover the new podcast from Sara Holtz called "Advice To My Younger Me" - professional advice focussed on women in professions. Sara is wonderful -- I had the pleasure of attending several of her women lawyer roundtable sessions when i was at K&L Gates. http://tomyyounger.me/
We all need to be more aware of this.
I'm a little ashamed to admit this but I'm enjoying TMZ's "Behind the Bar" podcast, which is about the legal issues of celebrity reporting -- you know -- privacy violations, hacking, slander. https://itunes.apple.com//podcast/tmz-behind/id1138434510
Oh -- this will be interesting to watch. I have to say - when I read these stories I am thankful over and over again to how great my experience was at Preston Gates & Ellis. Couldn't have asked for more responsibility, exposure, management roles, etc. http://abovethelaw.com//biglaw-firm-hit-with-100-million-/
Wow. Seems like California is light years ahead of New York on this issue. http://www.newyorklawjournal.com/id=1202766299228
