There was a moment when Brent and Ale were giving me a tour of their home and I just stopped dead in my tracks and said "I think I have a buyer for you!". They just kind of looked at me like I was crazy (which let's face it, I kinda am....). The next thing we know, I'm of the house on FaceTime. ... Yet another podcast by Pastor Rick Warren spoke to me - no surprise there! He was talking about four keys to being a good communicator in moments of confrontation. 1- .... 2- . 3- . 4- ' . If I say something OFFENSIVELY it will be received DEFENSIVELY. These four steps are NOT easy, right? When you're hurt, it's really hard to do ANY of those things....BUT if we can surrender our will (or in other words, pride and stubbornness), step back, BREATHE and think of how the person across from us is going to feel when we speak, we can really make a positive impact. Offering the benefits shows we are thinking of the other person's needs as well as our own. Speaking positively will break down barriers and offering hope will pave the way for opportunity. If you keep calm and watch your tone, your pace and your volume, you can avoid the defenses coming up. After all, DEFENSE is to protect yourself, right? That just means they feel attacked. When does something positive come easily out of a situation of attack or combativeness? Are you a What Iff'er? I can relate. My husband is full of faith and steps out so boldly to try and do new things. I am the cautious one. I need a plan of action. I want to know where I'm going, what I'm doing and WHY. In some ways, that is a huge benefit. Once I have a plan I am on a MISSION to accomplish it. BUT, in the past, my intellect has got in the way of opportunity.... That's where Adam has given me boldness. I look at how much I've grown in this area over the past decade and honestly, I surprise MYSELF! So if I can do it, so can you! I want to encourage you to step out in faith with that thing you've been wrestling with. If you know you SHOULD but you have just been too scared to go for it.....GO.....FOR....IT. Really. Go for it! You may (probably will actually) have some falls, but it's those experiences that strengthen us and develop us. Be BOLD. Be BRAVE. Be YOU. TAKE THE SHOT.
