Steve Johnson’s fishing Adventures

Sometimes I forget I don’t have to leave the Hood to catch Stripers and my two best Striper trips ever were in the Hood , with one being yesterday... Started ou...t drifting live Bluegills , lots of fish but they seemed full as there were bait balls scattered all in the Turning Basin in Downtown Stockton.. managed to hook one 22er.... decided to switch to the troll and pull a deep diver for a couple miles but did not draw a strike...then I ran up into the San Joaquin and and that was definitely the right choice as I found the mother lode... tons of birds diving and found a 1/2 mile stretch of river that had a big school of Stripers and Shad in it... Had it all to myself... ended up catching 18 Stripers from 19- 26 with only one that went under 18... nothing huge but on light gear they were a blast... stayed on them getting my arms sore ripping jerk baits till my rod guides fell off ..... literally ... 65 degree water and clean... the conditions were ideal... Don’t forget where you come from and where you got your start... sometimes we get caught up in what everyone else is doing and we think we have to drive an hour to fish or keep up with the Jones’s... Went on another meat run ... was a little tougher bite and they made us work for them limits , but it can’t always be easy... the #HOOKERSTERMINALTACKLE Octost...inger hooks proved deadly as always along with the Cat Cable .. it was the 3rd trip in a row with a Person Best species and yesterday it was a Cooper Rockfish.... headed back out Saturday....meet you all there...
