Saturday, December 12, 2020: Today we celebrate the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe. I was once watching a television interview of Carlos Santana and they were discussing his spirituality and meditation. He shared a story about how he would pray and ask the Virgin Guadalupe to intercede on his behalf. He said while he was having a conversation with her... - suddenly the interviewer interrupted and said "Wait, you mean to say that you ...where having a conversation with the Virgin Guadalupe?" And Carlos said "Yes!" And he explained "Too often when we pray, we do all the talking. We ask for healing, forgiveness, patience, understanding, or help with something that we are struggling with. But, how often do we listen back? Have you ever mediated and waited for an answer? Try it the next time you pray and see what happens." So, I gave it a try. Why not give it a try yourself? Go to a quiet room and silence yourself. Once you feel a sense of peacefulness start your prayer, whatever it might be...then wait. Filter out all the noise. It may take awhile. Block out all distractions. Be still, calm, and quiet to the point where you can hear your own breathing and maybe your heart beating. Again, it may take awhile. Take a deep breath and don't give up...and just meditate and wait for a response. It might be just one word...one word in a very clear voice that seemed to come from right near your ear. Happy Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe! See more

"We are especially mindful of the Navajo Nation where people are being infected with the coronavirus at some of the highest rates in the country. We hold in prayer our brothers and sisters who are suffering and grieving in these communities, and we stand with them in calling for a robust response to the pandemic in their lands." http://www.usccb.org/news/2020/20-76.cfm
The first of May was chosen for the dedication because it is the first day of the month traditionally dedicated to Mary, the bishops wrote in a statement April 20. They noted that May 1 is also the feast of St. Joseph the Worker and an opportunity to pray for workers who are worried and fearful for the future. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com//after-receiving-hundre
Christ Is Risen! Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! "Easter could not be cancelled. The central mystery of our faith is greater than any virus. It lights beyond the ability of anyone, any bishop, any government, to suspend or alter it. It is timeless and eternal...and it is ours this joyous day!" - Bishop Myron Cotta, Diocese of Stockton
Our liturgical year begins with the season of Adventa time of hopeful expectation of the coming of the Lord. On the first Sunday of Advent we look forward to the end of time when we will awaken to the dawn of Christ's new day. Today we hear Isaiah speak of a day when God's power will have brought universal peace and God's Word will have instructed all people, radiating God's "light" (teachings) into all of human society. Only when humanity walks "In the light of the Lord" (I...saiah 2:5), when all people desire to be instructed "in [God's] ways" (Isaiah 2:3), will the world be set aright and our deepest longings fulfilled. One can only imagine how Isaiah must have felt and longed for humanity to let go of our earthly ways of envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth, and wrath. How long?...when will we "awake from our sleep" for His final "day is at hand" (Romans 13:11,12). Together these scriptures proclaim our Christian faith that Jesus is the One who will finally come to fulfill God's plan of salvation. AMEN. See more

We can never undo the wrongs inflicted on the peoples who have lived on this land that we now call California since time immemorial, but we can work together to build bridges, tell the truth about our past and begin to heal deep wounds, Newsom said in a written statement https://www.sacbee.com//capitol-alert/article231693103.html

The 40 days of Lent are a good set time to work on personal discipline in general. Instead of giving something up, it can be doing something positive. "I'm going to pray more. I'm going to exercise more. I'm going to be nicer to people." But it's about more than self-control - it's about finding aspects of yourself that are less than Christ-like and letting them go. Of course, even when we set simple goals for ourselves for Lent, we still have trouble keeping them. When we're confronted with our own weakness during Lent, the temptation is to get angry and frustrated. But that's the wrong lesson. God is calling us to be patient and to see ourselves as he does,...with unconditional love.
