There is a split-roll initiative headed for the ballot in 2020. Attorney General Xavier Becerra's office issued a title and summary on Oct. 17 issued a biased summary that emphasizes questionable benefits that might be popular with voters. What got left out? Clarity that the initiaitve would increase taxes on commerical property. A change that could make California a more expensive place to live as property owners pass cost on to tenants and customers. ... "n a letter to the Democratic attorney general, a lawyer representing the group Californians to Stop Higher Property Taxes which is backed by real estate and business groups warns that the ballot language is false, in large part because of its assumptions about revenue, and amounts to an opinion intended to sway voters." If Becerra’s office doesn’t issue an amended title and summary, the letter concludes, opponents will be compelled to seek relief from the Courts.
