Karl Tee'ing it up at the AJGA's 2020 Junior Players "Junior Am" fundraiser at TPC Sawgrass and flanked by both AJGA and TaylorMade management who have been so immensely supportive to his and so many others junior careers. The AJGA's ACE Grant allows players who otherwise couldn't afford to play at this level to realize their junior potential and set themselves up for a college scholarship. Likewise, Taylormade Golf continue to equip all AJGA players with their product and have looked after all of Karl's equipment needs since he was 12 year's old. Thanks for all the support.

Friday was Graduation Day and Karl earned Valedictorian Honors. A warm-hearted thanks to Saddlebrook Prep for 5 great years courtesy of their scholarship program and a special thanks to the founder of Saddlebrook Resort, Mr. Dempsey for believing in Karl. Additional gratitude is extended to the teaching staff for working through the various challenges which present occasionally amongst testosterone-laden teenagers whilst at the same time enabling them to graduate to the university of their choice. Next stop on Sunday for Karl- Stanford University.

Karl cramming in some final rounds before going under the knife next week to fix up a poorly set broken finger- corrective surgery which cannot be delayed. The countdown towards the US Am and US Open then begins in earnest.

Here's wishing Karl a very happy birthday today. With the very real likelihood of embarrassing him, here's some blasts from the past...

Karl Vilips- Supporters Page 11.11.2020

Today we had the pleasure of hosting a very accomplished golfer in Karl Vilips at The Nightmare. Karl is currently the he 16th ranked amateur in the WORLD. He h...as qualified to compete in the 2020 US Open at Winged Foot and will be joining the golf team at Stanford University in the fall. Karl has been a member of two Junior Presidents Cup teams and was a gold medal winner at the 2018 Youth Olympics. We are looking forward to following all of these young men and their golfing careers! The Junior Trifecta! As Karl's junior career comes to an end in mid-September and with the past 5-months seeing him have to sit on the sidelines due to a broken finger, he's sitting atop all 3 junior rankings systems and 10th in the men's amateur rankings.Changes to US Open Amateur Exemptions will unlikely see Karl earning an exemption this year, so he's entered his last available AJGA event- The Junior Players at TPC Sawgrass in early September.

Major Award for Karl. The Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Awards recognize the achievements of junior golfers around the world who distinguish themselves with a high level of junior tournament play as well as excellence in academics, exceptional character and a commitment to community service. Karl joined 4 other players from around the world as this year's recipients. See the AT&T Byron Nelson Tweet at https://t.co/Y5mh5NwzTR

Despite Karl's broken finger having seen him fail to be able to lodge any tournament results since February, he's still the No.1 Junior on Golfweek, No.1 on Junior Golf Scoreboard, No.2 on the Rolex Junior rankings and 11th on the Men's World Amateur Rankings (WAGR). The troublesome broken finger should be 100% by September, but he's had to sit out the Southern, Sunnehanna, Western and US Am's while it heals. Many thanks to the crew at Stanford Medical for fixing up and monitoring what should have been done in Florida when he initially broke it and which has resulted in the additional 3-months of lost tournament results for a total of 6-months out of competition.

And the below-mentioned announcement brings Karl's Junior career to a close with him having only played in half the tournaments of his final junior year. Rather than dwell on the now however, it's a good time to look back at what Karl achieved in his Junior career ahead of starting his college career later in the year; 2 US Kids World Championship titles at ages 7 and 9. 2 Junior World Champs titles (plus a runner-up) at ages 10,12 &13 5 AJGA Titles including 3 Invitationals ...4 consecutive wining years on the AJGA- 2nd best of all time. Gold Medalist at the 2018 Youth Olympics Junior Orange Bowl title Bobby Chapman Invitational title Men's Southern Amateur title 2 Junior Presidents Cup teams 4 AJGA Wyndham Cup teams 4 Rolex All American Honors Held the #1 spot on all 3 major Junior rankings simultaneously Rose to 10 on the Men's World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) Was the #1 ranked Junior worldwide on the WAGR Low Men's tournament round of 61 at the Northeast Am. Features in 6 AJGA all-time Boys Records 4 official Course Records 5 Tournament Holes-in-One Dozens of wins on the minor junior tours To have been able to achieve these successes requires a dedicated team around the player, and that has (in no particular order) included the AJGA, Saddlebrook Preparatory, Taylormade Golf, Adidas Golf, The Tarheel Junior Tour and Golf Australia to whom Karl is eternally grateful. Karl's supporters still have over 9 hours to tighten the gap between Tiger and Karl in the Tiebreaker to decide the title of The AJGA's Best Junior. Remember, this is only for the junior years. It's worth noting that Karl won the Gold Medal at the Youth Olympics and also won a Men's Southern Amateur, as well as sharing numerous trophies that Tiger also won, including the AJGA Polo, The Junior Orange Bowl and 2 Junior World titles. For the full list of records which Karl and Tiger share in the AJGA Boys Record Book, go to https://www.ajga.org/about/records/boys. You may just be surprised to see that Karl features in 6 records despite the 42-year history of the AJGA. (From the AJGA) We're heading to a playoff! Karl won the final match of the AJGA's Greatest Male Golfer of All-Time bracket on Twitter. However, on Instagram, Tiger Woods defeated Karl. To determine the true GOAT, we'll host one final poll right here between the two. Use the link https://twitter.com/AJGAGolf/status/1249446761510375424 to direct you the voting page at Twitter.... A junior career interrupted. What hasn't been mentioned about Karl are the following; Karl won a Men's Tournament whilst a junior- The Southern Amateur at age 15, joining the immortal Bobby Jones as the youngest players to have won that prestigious event. Karl beat Akshay Bhatia to win the Gold Medal at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Argentina. Following wins in his first two AJGA Open events Karl was unable to compete on the AJGA for almost a year in 2015-2016 due to having had a via issue. See more

Although Karl has a huge lead in their Twitter Polling, Karl currently trails Tiger in the Final of the AJGA's Instagram Poll for the "Best AJGA Junior of all time" title with Tiger currently having 55% of the poll to Karl's 45%. This poll is only for their junior careers- not as professional golfers. If you'd like to help Karl take down Tiger, go to https://www.instagram.com/stories/ajgagolf/ and hit Karl's name. There's 6 hours of polling remaining, so hop to it.

Well done everyone in helping Karl knockout Jordan Spieth in the quarter-final and get him to the Final 4 in the vote for the AJGA's "Best Junior of all time" title. Karl now faces Phil Mickelson, and though he leads Mickelson on the Instagram Voting, he trails Lefty by 45-odd votes on the Twitter ballot. So, if you have a Twitter account, you can cast your vote by either clicking on the AJGA picture below (which will link you directly to the Twitter page) or click on this link: https://twitter.com/AJGAGolf/status/1248698787603906560

With just a few hours remaining in the quarter-final match between Karl and Jordan Spieth in the battle for the AJGA's "Best Junior of all time" competition, Karl once again needs your support to help him get over the line. Either click on the diagram below or paste https://twitter.com/AJGAGolf/status/1248327908097171458 and scroll down to their match to cast your vote. Karl may be currently taking on Jordan Spieth in the "Elite 8" segment of the AJGA's "Best Junior of all time" online competition after having already taken down both Peter Uihlien and then Akshay Bhatia, but I'm nevertheless gob-smacked by the beauty of Perth sunrise's from my pad at sparrow's -fart this morning. However, if you do feel energized sufficiently to do so, a vote for Karl in his match-up against Jordan Spieth wouldn't go astray because they're posting even votes so far. Firstly go to your Twitter account and then enter this link into the internet address (the bar that begins with https://) section and it'll bring up the competition and voting. https://twitter.com/AJGAGolf/status/1248327908097171458 Cheers

Karl finished T-11 at the AJGA Simplify Boys Championship after struggling with a defiant Putter all 3 days. Still, if 5-under is disappointing for Karl, then those boys who finished ahead of Karl really can play. OK, that was last week and Karl wanted to get on with 2020, so his buddy- US Airforce F-22 Stealth Fighter Jet photographer Sam Eckholm put together this extraordinary piece for Karl.

The revised world amateur ranking system was released by the R&A this evening, which although still using the past 104 weeks for the purposes, now places greater emphasis on more recent results. Karl's consistent record of making Top-10's at most tournaments he's entered this past year has seen him rewarded with the 10th position on the new system. You'll oft here me say "It takes a village...", and indeed, Karl couldn't have reached where he's at without the support of a lot of people and organizations. The 1st round of the world's #5 ranked amateur event, the 2019 South Beach International Amateur started on Thursday in constant rain and 15-30mph winds which saw the scoring average for the field many shots more than in previous years on these same courses. The battle for the players was to keep their Tee-shots on the fairway and manage the flight of their approach shots. Karl's only major issue was a double bogey resulting from a strong wind gust that knocked him off balance on a driver downswing and which saw that ball sail off somewhere towards Cuba, but he bounced back with immediate back-to-back Birdies and sits 3-back from the lead after signing for a 72. For the 1st time, Karl heads the world's 3 major junior rankings- The Rolex, Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard. Why's this a pretty cool milestone? Because each rankings body uses their own specific algorithms to calculate their rankings, so to top all 3 is very unusual. They say "It takes a village...", so a huge thanks from Karl's Team to everyone concerned for your continued support.

Jack's infamous "Bear Trap" on PGA National's "Champions" course claimed Karl's scalp today, so he ended up settling for 2nd place whilst America's form player Kelly Chin rose to the occasion to take this year's Rolex Tournament of Champions. Karl's got bounced out of Matchplay today at the US Junior Am in what can only be described as a head-scratcher for the bookies. Why? It's a mystery. Strokeplay tournaments usually feature a low round, 2 good rounds and one below average round by most players. If the 4 rounds total less than the next guy, then you finish above him. With Matchplay however, just one below average round sees you get bounced out. Today was a below average round which saw Karl shoot 2-over and get knocked out, whilst others who progressed shot up to 5 over and still won their match, but that's the volatility of Matchplay. Karl now gets to bounce back hard next week at the Pacific Coast Amateur in Albuquerque New Mexico, so keep up your support.

The Polo Classic at Liberty National brought the MatchPlay format back after an absence of a few years to StrokePlay. Starting this year, Liberty National in Jersey City will act as the host course for this event, with the players sharing a backdrop featuring the Statue of Liberty and the skyline of Manhattan. The field is divided into pods of 4 players who each play the other members of their pod over the first 2 days. 3 of the 4 players in Karl's pod each recorded 2 wins o...ut of their 3 matches, so were all tied at 2 points each and a sudden death was required to find a winner of that pod. The 1-hole sudden death formula bit Karl hard despite him being 13-under Par (and included 4 hole-outs from the bunkers and Greenside) over his 3 round-robin matches when his drive finished under the fairway bunker lip and he took bogey and failed to advance. That's the rules, so Karl had to bow out. Another of the top-3 ranked players went out in identical fashion, bringing to attention to a need for changes for next year, with the sudden death format next year likely to follow the lead of other knockout Matchplay events and use a 3 or 4 hole sudden death so as to avoid the situation where the result comes down to the nuances of a single hole. In any case, the event was awesome, with the players getting to play on the same course which the PGA will use for the upcoming FedEx play-off event- The Barclays. As always, the AJGA ran the event like a tour event and spoiled the players accordingly. The kids balance academics with maintaining an extremely high level of play, so the treatment by the AJGA is most welcome. Next up, the team format where the East Coast plays the West Coast in the Wyndham Cup in North Carolina starting Monday. See more

Saturday morning sees the opening round of the 2019 edition of the Thunderbird International at Grayhawk Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona. Karl had a 3rd place last year and hopes to go a couple better this year. On a course where accuracy off the Tee is the key due to unpredictable desert lies and the possibility of being shot by a Jumping Cholla (Cactus), finding the narrow fairways off the Tee will be imperative for any players wanting to feature on the podium come Monday. Karl Tees off at 8.05am (Local time) and you can keep up with the live scores at https://www.ajga.org//thunderbird-internationa/leaderboard

Some pre-round irons and woods in full and half speed from Karl including tracking the ball into the Dawn sky. Actually we recorded these 2-months in Adelaide but thought they were worth showing Karl's supporters as we filmed in 4K Ultra HD.
