People seemed to really enjoy the "talk story" segments, something we can't do as much of in the live theatre show. So now the 14th annual festival is on the books! The Na‘alehu Theatre announces the 13th Annual Gabby Pahinui Waimnalo Kanikapila - Live Streaming August 8, 2020 9am to Pau This Free annual gathering of more... than 100 of Hawai‘i’s best musicians and hula dancers is held in Waimnalo to honor Gabby Pahinui and his contributions to Hawaiian music and to acknowledge the musical heritage of the Waimnalo community. Due to continued concerns for CoronaVirus in our community, we are unable to present the 2020 Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila in an open to the public park setting. The 2020 festival will instead be presented in conjunction with the Aloha Shirt Festival in Kailua-Kona in a livestream, digital format. The festival is designed after gatherings remembered from Cyril’s childhood days, when weekends at the family’s home on Bell Street in Waimnalo were a continuous kanikapila. As in those days, the event attracts more than 100 musicians and gives thousands of fans an opportunity to witness some truly unforgettable moments, amazing performances, and one of a kind all-star jams by some of Hawai‘i’s greatest musicians who get together to play music in the park. The 13th annual festival offers a special recognition of Skylark Rossetti with the presentation of the 2nd Annual Slylark Rossetti Broadcaster’s award. Cyril was committed to the festival continuing and was instrumental in selecting the T-shirt design. Aloha everyone, I hope you and everyone in your circle of friends and family are all OK and in good health during this crazy time. In light of the situation we're all facing, I've made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Los Angeles International Ukulele Festival. Based on the information and directives coming from the California and Los Angeles government, I felt it was the safest choice and likely an inevitable one. I've reserved October 2, 2021 with the city of Torrance so save the date!
