Halloween is a great day to get a spooky good workout in! It can be a stressful day for some, so why not burn off some calories, and gain some endorphins! This Halloween-Esque workout will get your heart pumping and the sweat pouring. Grab a friend, a relative or a Kaia sister, or all the above, and get this workout done in a park, a backyard, or in your home! We've talked before about barre and the benefits, but where did barre originate? This will come as no shock to you, but barre was developed by a ballerina, Lotte Berk, a German dancer living in London. Berk had injured her back, and while injured, came up with the idea to twine together her dance routine with her rehab therapy. What a fantastic idea! In 1959, she opened her first studio in her basement in London, and later in 1971, an American student of her's, Lydia Bach, ...brought it back to the United States. Bach opened her first studio in New York City. Now, let's take a minute to remind ourselves of the benefits of barre...strengthening and lengthening of muscles, improves posture, build your core, and burn calories. Another aspect of holds is in everyday life. We think of holds as what we do in the gym; planks, wall sits, handstands, hollow body but what about outside the gym? Have you ever thought about how do you hold your purse, your groceries, your kids? This might have a big impact on your posture, strength and potential injury. Next time you are holding these things, think about your posture and setting yourself up for success and less injury, plus why not get a little bit of a workout out of it?
