Down-to-stand The exercise that is much harder than it looks! It’s all about the slow, controlled descent and then pushing up with the hind limbs into the ...stand. This is a full body exercise that works the core, pelvic limbs and shoulders. It can be very tiring as it engages the big muscle groups, so keep reps low, focussing on good form instead. N.B. If you look back through my videos you can see a video of Winnie doing this exercise when she was about 9 months old. Look at the improvements she has made! Just a little loose leash trail walking training this morning!! Look how proud Marlee is of herself!! Although she's starting to look like an adult dog, Marlee is still just a pup and is working on controlling her excitement when she sees other people in dogs. Generally, if I'm on a trail, I'm not going to ask my dog to heel, it's just way too difficult! It's like taking your kid to Disneyland and telling them that they can't stop to look at or touch anything! therefore, I allow a loose leash walk, I even suggest bringing a long line if you trust your dog to not eat anything! I'll allow my dog to sniff and go where she wants as long as she's not pulling me. If she pulls I stop and give her a small tug back or I'll turn the opposite way. Hikes are such a good way to stimulate yourself and your dog but make sure you're safe out there!
