Wednesday, March 31 is César Chávez Day, a state holiday honoring the late labor leader, civil rights activist, and champion for non-violent social change. JVS SoCal's mission is to empower individuals to achieve dignity and economic independence. As a workforce development provider serving people and communities who face barriers to employment, we proudly support and celebrate the life and accomplishments of Cesar Chavez, whose life was dedicated to improving the work and ...quality of life conditions for immigrant farmworkers in Central California and across the nation. Cesar’s motto, Si se puede! (Yes, it can be done!), embodies the uncommon legacy he left for people around the world. Since his death, hundreds of communities across the nation have named schools, parks, streets, libraries, and other public facilities, as well as awards and scholarships in his honor. In 1994, President Clinton posthumously awarded Cesar the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. The U.S. Navy named a ship after him in 2011. As a common man with an uncommon vision, Cesar Chavez stood for equality, justice and dignity for all Americans. His universal principals remain as relevant and inspiring today as they were when he first began his movement. "We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our communityOur ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own." #workequality #cesarchavez #sisepuede #unitedfarmworkers #ufw #lacounty #civilrights https://bit.ly/3ddQdlu
