Another wonderful VBAC today. This momma dug so deep and worked so hard to birth her baby boy at home and she rocked it. Her control and trust in her body was something to remember. So happy for them!

I have so much love for these pics! Loving our new colorful, cozy office space. Loving my beautiful pregnant clients! And grateful for the new shadows around me gleaning midwifery knowledge and experience for their future. Thanks @clickitbygracie. Anyone looking for a birth photographer? Check out Gracie’s work!

So grateful for my amazing clients - just to be a part of their journeys is an honor- not to mention being able to keep them as friends. There really are no words to explain my gratitude to the amazing Justine Waldram of @pure.birth. She is not only a gifted midwife, but a beautiful human being. I am happy to say Jake and I @ranch_hand_horsemanship successfully had my VBAC at home with the help and guidance of this incredible woman. If you haven’t tried home birthing, I highly recommend it. Give this midwife a call to plan the birth of your dreams @shaina_whitney

Midwives and time off from a midwife’s perspective. We pick this job and this lifestyle of all night births and missing kid’s birthdays, anniversary dinners with spouses and Christmas with grandma. But, we also deserve time off without being afraid of making our clients mad. ... Here is a little perspective for those with regular jobs. If you work 5 days a week, you have 2 days off. That is a total of 104 days off a year! Your boss probably won’t call you in so you have 104 chances to plan for time off with your family. Those 104 chances probably also come with a more tset schedule so you have time to think about and plan that precious time that you need to spend, away from home, work, life, stress, etc. As a solo midwife, if I average 3-4 births a month, that’s pretty busy. The average pregnancy is from 37-42 weeks so each and every pregnant woman needs 5 weeks of my schedule blocked off so I won’t miss her due date. So, if I want to take a week long vacation with no due dates, I have to take 6-8 weeks of absolutely no due dates so I can take 1 week off. I can’t afford to take 2 months off work for 7 days with my family!! I would also have to plan those 6-8 weeks a full 10 months in advance. That’s just to take 7 days off without making anyone mad about me wanting to put my family first for 7 days. My time with my family is interrupted all day with texts and questions which I always want to answer because I am their midwife and they need me to answer that question about baby poop color now, now tomorrow. As a solo midwife, I have another midwife that can cover. I also have to hope she can cover and doesn’t have her own full client load during any time I would like to go. It’s not that easy to just call someone to leave town or even just turn a phone over to. So, when your midwife, who gives of herself all hours of the day, want to take time with her family, please be respectful and know that she really needs those few days. You had 104!
